Thoughts! Thinky thoughts on Sherlock

Ok so LJ, I've been gone all year to Facebook and Twitter, but I'm back now. I'm rewatching Sherlock and considering maybe writing some fic (*gasp*). Below some thinky thoughts.

Is Sherlock thinking John is coming on to him at the restaurant out of character? Why else would he notice it, when what's-her-face at the mortuary is so obvious about ( Read more... )

So is my John/Sherlock story about how differently Sherlock reacts to John than everyone else? (

Yesyesyes! On re-watch, my roommate said he liked the way Sherlock delivered his explanations in the first episode better than in the second and third eps, noting that they took on more of an air of performance than in the first.

But then I noticed that in the piloe, he was mainly giving his deductions to WATSON. The notable exception is his feverish thinking-out-loud over the body of the woman from Cardiff. Otherwise, Sherlock is more soft-spoken and less dramatic when he talks directly to Watson, especially when he's making deductions about Watson's own background, or his relationship with his family. Sherlock does not regard Watson as an audience, like the other detectives. He is communicating to Watson as a potential friend, partner, collaborator, soul mate, what have you.

Yes - the one that struck me the most was right after Sherlock explained to Lestrade how he knew about the Cardiff woman had been to Cardiff, and Watson said, "That's fantastic" and Sherlock said, "Do you know you do that out loud?" and Watson said, "Sorry, I'll shut up" and Sherlock said, "No it's.. fine" in the softest, most intimate tone - dramatically contrasted to the way he spoke in the entire rest of the episode.

Also I noticed how John is not afraid to touch Sherlock - I can't find the part but when he says, "What's that you've got" and takes Sherlock's hand so familiarly, to take that bit of paper out of it. Agh, it's driving me crazy, I have to find it now. I thought it was the end of the Pilot/Study in Pink but it's definitely not.

Oh, I hadn't noticed the touching. Good catch! (I can't remember which scene, either.)

It's fantastic, it's as if they've already been lovers for years, that touch. I'll find it.
