Long Time, No Words

Goodness, it's been a while since I had anything to say. And --lest you be surprised!-- I still don't. This post arises mostly out of the combination of smugness and early-morning contentment that pervades after one has done hard work. (Exacerbated by the fact that you are in a nice warm house and the world outside is full of awful weather.) In ( Read more... )

The Big Sur is the one that I really hope comes through. I hear stories and fables about how beautiful it is, and I have this new pair of hiking boots to break in.

Any big summer plans?

(Oh, and I wanted to ask: when will the auction at Con or Bust close? I'm trying to watch those maps but I don't want to forget.)

The auction closes on the 31st. The auction runners seem to be good at staying on top of that.

Big Sur is astoundingly beautiful, oh, it's just magnificent. My guess is, you would totally love it there!

Summer plans: home and work. No cash for anything else!

I'm a little bit leery of you trying all these things with such massive time commitments; have you considered teaching English in foreign countries through the programs in the countries? It might take a little bit of googling, but I know countries like Russia, Korea, Morocco, or Japan have government and privately sponsored programs that let you live and teach for a 6mo-1year or longer, if you choose to extend the contract. This also gives you a bit more of a choice where you might want to go; try googling "teaching English in [...]" and you'll get a whole slew of options. I'm just really worried about you committing yourself long-term to something that is going to give you as much grief as school or TASP did.

Definitely heard. *snugs* You're so awesome, you know that?

The length of time is a potential issue, and it's one I'm really looking at seriously.

My worry with some of the government sponsored programs is that while you are there to teach the language, you are not there to learn the country's language, and anecdotal evidence from tutors in the Writing Center who have done similar programs suggests that the teachers are pretty isolated, not only from other teachers, but from their host community as well. (Gillian, Carolyn and Burton have all done these programs, if you've had any of them.)

I'll definitely investigate more, though. The Morocco Program would really appeal to me.

*googles Big Sur* Yay Wikipedia :D

It would be a blast to go - and I would certainly love to, but it would definitely depend on money and time and such. Which I'm sure you know :P

It looks beautiful from it's wikipedia page, though!
