Kato Shigeaki (NEWS) lands lead role in late-night drama
On February 12 it was announced that Kato Shigeaki (22) of NEWS will take on his first starring role in a serial drama, as the lead in TV Tokyo's Troubleman. The drama will air late-night Fridays, beginning on April 9.
Kato is the second person in NEWS, after Yamashita Tomohisa (24), to play the lead in a serial drama. "I'll try hard to really bring my character to life through my performance," he resolves.
The show is a comedy about a man who unwittingly gets dragged into the problems of his apartment neighbors. It marks the first time that cult director SABU (45), of Dangan Runner and Kanikousen (The Cannery Boat) fame will head production on a television drama.
Tegoshi Yuya (22), another NEWS member, starred in the SABU-directed film Shissou in 2005. "I've heard wonderful things about SABU-san from Tegoshi," Kato says. "I'm looking forward to working with him. I'll try my best not to be a trouble man on set."
