I've seen this happen a lot, unfortunately. It's not limited to Japan, nor the idol fanbase. Almost every fandom has those who were there "from the beginning" who look down on later fans for whatever reason--though it's mainly to fulfill their fantasies of self-importance and the idea that they're the only ones who really understand said fandom.

Favorite comment: “I hear a lot of new fans say ‘What’s wrong with making love to an idol? Is there some law against it?’ Otaku will spend loads of money for a pseudo-romance with an idol, but only on the condition that the maiden remains pure!”

Yes, because believing you have control over the idol's sex life (or are even *thinking* about her virginity in such a possessive manner) is not creepy at all.

Ugh, this kind of hating on newer fans happens in all sorts of fandoms and it's usually over this kind of meaningless stuff. -_-

But I think part of this looks like it's specific to the image of what an "otaku" is, and older otaku being jealous of newer otaku who actually have social skills as it slowly becomes more acceptable to be an otaku.

Aren't all fandom like that tho? Older fans always look down on the "noobs" it's nothing new.

Could kind of emphasize with what they're saying, until the part about being fashionable. Tough being a newbie idol fan, it's frowned upon to be fashionable and support idols at the same time LOL. I'm sure your idol wouldn't mind if you're dressed well for her handshake event!
