I haven't watched any figure skating in ages, though I loved it when I was younger. But the performance of Jeremy Abbott I did watch and wow, was he amazing or what? He so deserved to win the nationals, and I'm glad he did.
I'm going throw out the dissenting opinion here and say I didn't think the long program was that good.
Now, compared to the other skaters JA was clearly the best and completely deserved to win, but figure skating in general took a huge hit when they got rid of school figures and the new scoring system only made things worse.
Aww, yeah, we do disagree because I was really moved by it.
As for the new scoring system, sigh, I'm used to it now, I guess -- but yeah, I don't think I'll ever like it. I mean the fact that this scoring system allowed the lumberer that is Rachel Flatt win a US Championship is the epitome of what is wrong with this scoring system. (Yeah, I'm still not over that, and probably never will be.)
