Yay, Figure Skating! Thoughts behind the cut ...
Still not a White/Davis fan, but I loved the Shibutani Siblings last year -- where they finished Silver -- and they did the same this year. Yay.
I love me some Mirau Nagasu, but she was just so not on her game this time around. Ah well. At least Ashley Wagner FINALLY broke through. I've been rooting this girl for FIVE YEARS NOW, and she finally got the top spot. Hopefully, she will be able to keep that momentum going and land on the podium at the Worlds. She remains such an artistic skater with beautiful fluidity and musicality. Other than Agnes Zawadzki's short program, I wasn't really impressed with anyone else's programs ... even Mirai. (Girl was SO not on.) Ah well.
Quick non-spoiler comment -- JOHNNY WEIR IS BRINGING SEXY BACK TO FIGURE SKATING! OH YEAH!
Oh lordy, I love Jeremy Abbot sooooooo much. His short was wonderful, jazzy, fun (co-choreographed by Benji Schwimmer, who continues with his love of suspenders), oh my, but that long program ... I'm not gonna lie, it nearly had me in tears. That was so incredibly beautiful. And if he can clean skate that boy at the Worlds, he may well win. Gah, I love him so much! And even though the rest of the Men kinda blew (except for Adam Rippon's short), Jeremy was STILL amazing, and he didn't win by default (as he was almost 30 POINTS ahead of Silver Medalist, Rippon). He won because he kicked ASS!
Interesting that it looks like his main competition is Patrick Chan, a skater I REALLY liked from the Worlds/Olympics in 2010. We'll see what happens! (Of course, is Takahashi shows up and skates like I know he can, then all bets are off!)
And this is OFFICIALLY the first time in any figure skating event where the male/female skaters I wanted to win, actually won. WOOHOO!
