Well, I finally watched Ringer and The Secret Circle. I really, really liked one. The other? Not so much.

Find out which is which behind the cut! )

I do hope the technical aspects will improve beyond the pilot episode, but I personally enjoyed Ringer from a story point of view.

As for Bridget and Siobhan being unsympathetic/one-note characters, if I were you I'd give it a few episodes before I wrote them off - I wasn't exactly dazzled by Elena's likability and complexity in the pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries. I'm sure they've got a whole lot more layers they're planning to show us, especially Siobhan.

I get the comparison to Elena and Katherine, but I think it's important to remember that Elena and Katherine are such radically different people and such radically different beings altogether. Bridget and Siobhan are twins who've grown up together, rather than doppelgangers who've never met, so I wouldn't necessarily expect there to be as dramatic a difference in their voices and mannerisms.

ANYWAY. Keep watching for Jason (<3333333) and see if it picks up for you. Here's hoping ( ... )

I do have hope it will get better, and I DID think of that aspect that Elena/Katherine are so different, whereas Bridget/Siobhan wouldn't be that different. I'm not giving up yet, don't worry.

TSC was enjoyable; I liked it.

I haven't watched Ringer yet, only wanted to for SMG, but that sure doesn't sound promising. As for The Secret Circle, I wasn't really that impressed by it, but I will keep watching for a while for Britt and Thomas as I adored them both in Life Unexpected and Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, two shows that were hands above better than this, but maybe they'll bring it up to their level or it will find its feet soon. I hope so because I don't want to see their talents wasted.

I wasn't impressed either.

I'm not as attracted to the stars, so this is going to have to be better nearly immediately for me to keep up with it. I know that "The Vampire Diaries" is a big hit, and I'd never disparage anyone for liking what they liked, but I always felt "I've seen this already... in Buffy".

Plus, it feels like the main character (I can't even remember her damned name) is Mary-Sue-ish ... of course, she's the strongest witch, even though she doesn't even know about her powers. Of course, she alone, can stop the 'rebellious witch's' spellcraft, even without ever casting a spell. Of course, her destiny is with the hot, young male witch....

*Urgh* They need to undercut her character, post-haste, to show she isn't perfect and can make some really serious mistakes, or I just won't be able to stick with it.

And cheap-looking. Both Bridget and Siobhan were not likable characters, for different reasons. Siobhan is a cold-hearted bitch, and Bridget is pathetic. Her sweeping into Siobhan's life just seemed so incredible, and her explanation just didn't work, definitely not as presented. I just, yeah, I wasn't impressed. And I couldn't even begin to judge SMG's acting as the twins because in "their" scenes together, all I could concentrate on was how bad the technical aspect was. It looked like cheap, split-screen. It was obvious it was the same actress cut into the same shot ( ... )

Still haven't watched either yet, but am spoiling myself to see what you thought! :D It seems like the general reaction to Ringer is very mixed, so it definitely wasn't just you feeling underwhelmed. I'm still going to give it a try, because I like the premise and a lot of the actors, but the collective 'meh' has definitely got me adjusting my expectations accordingly.

OTOH, I'm very glad you think TSC shows promise, because it's one of the shows I've been looking forward to the most, and knowing how similar our TV reactions often are, I suspect that means I'm going to enjoy it too! :D
