'Chuck' ... all about 'Chuck!'

So, I watched Chuck. I started out re-watching the Pilot and had the same 'eh' reaction I had originally, but I kept going. At about episode six or seven, I'd say I started to really get into it and by the season one finale, I was hooked and watched the first episode of season two right after, before going to bed. Then I watched season two in ( Read more... )

It really is wonderful. I did it a big disservice by not giving it a chance based on the Pilot only. I won't make that mistake again. Note to self: When almost everyone on your flist is raving, remember that they're on your flist for a reason.

Sorry to sneak in here... if I may be so bold phibatola June 1 2009, 15:42:53 UTC
...I can second that. It really is a nice show. You know what is great about chuck? That you can watch it with your whole family because it refuses to take it self seriously. You know how other fandoms have drama and death and mayham? This is just one show that you can just sit and relax with and it will take you on a good ride.. (seriously check youtube there are six year olds reviewing the show). Its just one fun thing happening after the other. A nice breather from all the craziness of what is happening on your TV. Your friend is right though. It does take a while to warm up to it. The first few episodes are a bit slow but you can't help but fall for it in the end. I highly recommend it.

I don't know if there's much in the way of meaty CS fics out there--there's a ton of slashers in the fandom, and I know that plenty of people didn't like Sarah as a love interest in the first season, but I can ask around later to see if I can get you some.

Sigh, so tired of slash in fandom, I really am. I just do not understand why it's so prevalent EVERYWHERE in fandom even when there is so clearly, obviously NOTHING in the canon subject matter there. Yeah, yeah, Chuck kissed Casey but it was for life-saving purposes and neither was moved to swing the other way, LOL! Sigh. This isn't directed at you, it's just something that's been growing in frustration no matter the fandom. I honestly think that Sheldon/Penny is the *ONLY* fandom I've been involved in the last ten years that isn't filled with tons of slash-fandom as well ... and I. do. not. get. it. Of course, I'm a canon (or at least, canon-possible) girl. ::shrugs::

Yeah, I know there's not a lot of Sarah love out there. ::sniffles:: She's awesome. I appreciate you looking around for me. :)

I think most of the slash is actually Chuck/Bryce, but I could be wrong.

Give me a day and I'll get whatever I can.

Oh, that's actually not surprising. I can see some subtext there. Yeah, that I can see. Okay, if it's not mostly Chuck/Casey, but then I'm not that annoyed with slash in the Chuck fandom.

I read that as CASEY/Bryce. Yeah, no to Chuck/Bryce. Yeah, there's more than with Chuck/Casey, but no, it's still wrong. They were friends; why is it so hard for male characters (who are considered reasonably good-looking) who are friends to be perceived as JUST friends? The male friendship can be a beautiful thing but turning Spock/Kirk, Chuck/Byrce, whatever is so frustrating. Gah!!!!!!!!!!!

Bryce LOVES Chuck as a friend, that's what makes it so beautiful. That he's done all he has because he loves Chuck as a person, as one of his best friends. It's the same thing that makes Bryce's betrayal so painful for Chuck. Not because they had subliminal, homo-erotic feelings for one another, but because of their deep friendship. Same thing for the beauty of the Chuck/Morgan friendship ( ... )

YAY again! I'm so glad you gave the show another chance!

As far as Chuck/Sarah recs, I'm still working my way through things that are out there (never read fic until late season 2). But I really like ndnickerson's stuff and there are also some good recs at this post. :)

I'd rec my own story, except it's really not heavy on the Chuck/Sarah... :D

Oh, yeah and I've watched that 2x21 hotel scene about 50 times, too. (And the Awesome revelation). Enough that I've revised my opinion of Bon Iver's "Creature Fear". (I didn't like Bon Iver before - now I like THAT SONG).

Ooh, is that the name of the song that plays in that scene?! Do you have an mp3 of it? I'd love it.

I'm glad you decided to give Chuck another chance. It really is a great show, and I have similar thoughts about it as you do, though I love Casey a ridiculous amount and I really enjoyed the two episodes focused on him. Chuck/Sarah are wonderful, but like you I'm not obsessed with them, and that's probably why I didn't dislike some of their other love interests as much as I would have otherwise, although I agree that Jordana Brewster is not a very good actress.

I wish I had some recs for you, but due to me not being obsessed with Chuck/Sarah I haven't really sought any out, although there are a couple at Yuletide.

I'm glad I decided to. As I said above I really need to remember that my flist is my flist for a reason and when the vast majority of them raves about something, I'll probably agree!!!

I didn't mind the other love interests because of how it was executed except for stupid Cole Barker. Grrrr.

Awesome, awesome to the max! I love seeing more people get into the show, now that I've finally gotten into it myself. I have to admit though that Levi/Chuck remain my favorite. I do think Yvonne is great as Sarah, and that Sarah is a great character, but occasionally you can actually HEAR how tightly she clenches her jaw while speaking (for the sake of the accent), and it kind of grates on me at times. That said, she's still gorgeous and totally badass.

I do think that Levi is great, but Strahovski has just so become my girl-crush, LOL! I love her to bits. (And it's actually kinda nice because it's been a loooooooooong time since my favorite in a pairing was the girl. Go girl-power!) I've never noticed the jaw-clenching, or just attributed it to Sarah being annoyed, LOL!

Glad to know you do still like her though. She's awesome. Of course, he's awesome. Chuck is awesome!

Oh, I heart your icon so much. I'm slowly going through caps to find some good ones to make icons from.
