Dear World,

Please read High Fidelity by Nick Hornby.
Yes; I do mean now.

Thank you.

Love,

uh i have been saying this for like FIVE YEARS no joke, ever since i picked up high fidelity for 50 cents at the HM book fair and read it in like a day and then spent the next week reading my favorite bits aloud to anyone who would listen.

it's so beyond amazing. i just watched the movie, too. cute, but sub-par in comparison to the book. you really need -all- of his thoughts for the full effect.

do any of his other books measure up? (i'll read them either way, but out of curiosity...)

i actually saw the movie first, and while i agree it doesn't live up to the book, i have a special place for it in my heart because it was the first movie i ever saw jack black in.

the only other books of his i've read are about a boy and how to be good. how to be good SUCKED, a lot, and was very like... not funny and really depressing, which would be fine except the cover totally tried to make it sound like any other nick hornby book. i guess all of his books have their depressing moments but they're usually funny enough that you don't feel it. also the main character was sort of annoying and i was like well over 300 pages.

about a boy on the other hand is really good. i'm actually not sure that one was better than the movie, since the movie of that was very, very good, but it's worth reading just for the different, totally brilliant climax alone.

My boyfriend says that girls shouldn't be allowed to read it because bits of it are so accurate. Then I laugh and point out that female literacy is hot. Luckily he agrees. :-)
