I'm sorry, petal, I'm still pretty much confused by all of this myself and still say I would have been far happier, IF Carter had to go if they'd given her a more glorious death and not in effect fridged her for Reese's manguish.
That said, I'm still interested to see where they're going to take it in part three and I still have a little hope left.
Despite how long I've been in fandom this is still a first for me as I've always been in fandoms where the canon was already closed.

A closed canon is definitely safer and less stressful. I tried like hell to stay out of Sentinel because it was still on the air, then I slipped and started watching, only to have Blair drowned in the fountain with the show canceled the next day. It took nine months before the ressurected show brought Blair back to life and then, Jim kissed the woman who "killed" Blair in front of him! Oh, you should have heard the fannish hue and cry at that moment! Thinking back, it was sort of like John telling Carter how much she'd helped him without even mentioning that maybe Finch had been there a little bit too. Sentinel fandom survived, so probably so will POI.
I am feeling a little better this evening -- a talk with the always positive esteefee helped. She pointed out, as far as a glorious death for Carter goes, she did get shot when she jumped in front of the bullet meant for Reese
( ... )
The closed canon thing was never deliberate with me I just always arrived late (30 years late for Pros) or it was for one film or for one very short series, that sort of thing.
Esteefee's right of course... it's just going to take me a bit to adjust. I thought it would be Carter I just didn't expect it to go down like this.
It all still feel so unbelievable, for so many of the reasons you mentioned. And even though I ship Finch/Reese, I also loved Carter's character, and she didn't deserve to die.
I agree. I am not quitting the show yet. We may get back what we loved most.
Having read some articles and seen TPH on Letterman last night, apparently it was known well ahead of time that Carter would not live out the entire series should it have a long run. And she feels the ending was done right, while fans see the obvious fridging. Time will tell, with the way the rest of the season goes and how fans manage to deal with this.
I will. I love the show too much to just give up. I'm willing to give them a chance, just because there are still things that I look forward to, like how things develop with the machine and Root, if we find out more about Harold's past, etc.
Thanks for voicing out how I felt about the ep, made it a bit easier to handle. Glad you're still sticking around with me ^_^
I was stunned by it, too, and I'm a Shaw&Bear shipper. *g*
But as to Finch not trusting Root: her offer of help came with the condition of her release. I know she didn't say so the second time they talked, but I assumed that, and I think Finch did, too. He might be able to trust her to be of real help, but I don't think he's ready to trust her out in the world at large, even with "God" guiding her.
So true. He can't allow her to be loose. She might have helped him find John but then she'd be out of there.
Shaw does like Bear and Bear likes Shaw but she is John and Harold's dog! lol
I think this is setting us up to look into why the Machine communicates differently with Finch than it does with Root and why he can't talk to it anymore the way he did when he was programming it, why it maybe now doesn't talk to him. Agnst!
