Despite how long I've been in fandom this is still a first for me as I've always been in fandoms where the canon was already closed.
A closed canon is definitely safer and less stressful. I tried like hell to stay out of Sentinel because it was still on the air, then I slipped and started watching, only to have Blair drowned in the fountain with the show canceled the next day. It took nine months before the ressurected show brought Blair back to life and then, Jim kissed the woman who "killed" Blair in front of him! Oh, you should have heard the fannish hue and cry at that moment! Thinking back, it was sort of like John telling Carter how much she'd helped him without even mentioning that maybe Finch had been there a little bit too. Sentinel fandom survived, so probably so will POI.
I am feeling a little better this evening -- a talk with the always positive esteefee helped. She pointed out, as far as a glorious death for Carter goes, she did get shot when she jumped in front of the bullet meant for Reese.
BTW, just saw that Taraji P. Henson is going to be on Letterman tonight talking about the episode. Should be interesting.
The closed canon thing was never deliberate with me I just always arrived late (30 years late for Pros) or it was for one film or for one very short series, that sort of thing.
Esteefee's right of course... it's just going to take me a bit to adjust. I thought it would be Carter I just didn't expect it to go down like this.
