Tavros loved rain. He couldn't deny that he enjoyed it. In fact, everything in nature made his heart feel just a little lighter. When it came to wheeling himself 'home' in the rain, however, he lost that fondness for a time. It happened many times back in New York- rain, not being home, wheeling home, his wheelchair slip-sliding from the puddles and mud... yeah. Not very great.
It happened in the blink of an eye this time, and soon enough, he found his wheelchair skidding. Not only was it sliding beyond his control, but it was also headed for someone else caught in the rain.
"Oh, yeah. There's some civilization in here. Not a lot, I guess, but uh... I mean, there's enough for a place like this, full of nature."
Not that Tavros minded being surrounded by nature. He adored wildlife, trees, fresh, wet soil, flowers... everything. He preferred it that way, actually, but he didn't get to see this much nature at one time all around him. Being that he's from New York, he lived in a much more modern jungle than this commonly. He got used to it, but out in the wilderness? That's his favorite thing.
He began to roll out of the cave and gave a look around. Some of the leaves here were massive, so maybe...
"I've got an idea," he spoke up. He left the cave and plucked a large leaf. It was only really enough to cover his new friend's head, but it was something.
"Um, I usually don't like to pick leaves, because that's not very... nice for the plants, but..." He shrugged and handed Roxas the massive leaf by the stalk. "It might protect you from the rain, a little more."
"No kidding..." He murmured it more to himself as he looked at the trees that very well stretched on for miles. The same could be said for him, really. Sure, Twilight Town was pretty mellow and quiet... but other than the wood near that creepy old mansion? About the only nature he divulged in was the flower bed here and there. The town just didn't seem well oriented towards it, something he hadn't really thought of until he was stuck in the middle of the forest in this different world. He might have appreciated the change of pace, even, if circumstances were different. But as they were, well.
He stepped out into the rain again as Tavros did likewise and... why was he giving him this giant- Oh. That... made sense. But all the same, it left Roxas feeling awkward. Seriously, he just met the guy and... and what about himself? Ah... He glanced around a moment, trying to find another leaf on the ground. Really tempted to pick one from one of those trees, but. That would probably upset his new companion, so. Well. Uh... Yeah, he was
( ... )
Tavros lifted his eyes to the leaf between them both and returned the laugh with a soft chuckle himself. "Oh, well, at least it might give us a little opportunity to dry. Though I guess it wouldn't be very much..."
He tried, though. He wished he could do better for his friend, especially considering he was just holed up in this pathetic little cave. He couldn't imagine how wet and uncomfortable it was, living in a damp rockface like this. He did live here, right? Was it just shelter?
He rolled forward a little to get his sense of direction going. The town was just east from here, he realized, so he gave a little turn. "So, um," he began to speak, deciding to get to the bottom of this. "Do you live in this cave? It really doesn't... look very comfortable, though uh. How long have you been here? Maybe you don't live here or... something..."
Not much... but it was something. And Roxas could live with that. So he thought anyway. There were worse things than rain. Although he was getting pretty sick of it pretty fast. He took a few more strides in turn to Tavro's movements, almost on auto-pilot following him as he let himself be swept into thought a beat. But he was sailing back down from those clouds soon enough, a disgruntled expression befitting him at Tavros' guessing game.
"Why would I live here? I was just taking a break from looking around." He shook his head. "I've been looking since I got here, so... a few hours, I guess." Yeah, he knew nothing about this place. Not really much help in the info department here. "What about you?"
"Oh," was the only thing that came out of Tavros's mouth on reflex. Surely he could add more than that, though. Conversation was always a weak point of his. He wasn't very good at thinking of things to say on the fly, especially when he doesn't know what to expect every time. (Who does?)
"I've only been here, uh... a few days, I think. I found a small house to live in, but it's not very great," he admitted. He didn't horribly mind small living space. It was hard to get around, yes, but he managed. It seriously could have been worse. He could be living in a mud pile or something.
"It's okay, though. I'll be alright, and you should be, too, if you find a place to stay for a while," he gathered. He gave a few looks around with a pause, and then gestured for Roxas to follow him in a slightly different path.
"Because you might not be going home any time soon."
A few days... A few days. It echoed in his thoughts and his brows furrowed all the more despite himself. He didn't like hearing that. Even while Tavros admitted that it was 'alright', it... really wasn't. Not to him. And he found himself pausing in step, looking at the ground.
"How can you be so sure?"
It didn't matter, those things that he seemed to suddenly know without knowing the context in which he had discovered those truths. Something about vials and emotions and costs. All he knew was that no matter how vivid the dream and no matter what kind of weird things had happened before, he would get home. He would be safe. Back in his normal life doing normal things. Any other way just didn't sit well with him and the frown on his face attested to that.
Tavros's expression fell, and in an instant, he halted. His eyes darted down to the little container pendant around his neck, yet confusing and random to him. Why did he have this, and how could he fill it?
He toyed with it between his fingers and fumbled with it. He almost forgot about the silence permeating the area now. That just felt... awkward.
"Well, uh... we're not the only ones, and I don't know, if we can even get home. I couldn't even find anything to fill this up, I can't find a way home, and... um."
His eyes flickered back to Roxas, his tongue stilled for a moment.
"I guess I'm not sure, but that means it's still a possibility or something."
Awkward was more like increasingly frustrating to him. Was this guy going to just give up... just like that? But it wasn't like Roxas had had that much more luck and it showed as his hardened gaze fell. He found himself shrugging and giving off a tired sigh.
"Look, I don't really get any of this either. But not knowing about all this just means we'll have to do some recon, right?" Oh, man. Did he really use Hayner's words? It... That was not a little smile though as he shook his head. Definitely not, okay? Okay. Then taking a few strides forth.
"For right now? I say we get out of the rain." And then they would work from there perhaps.
For Tavros, it was more of him looking at reality than giving up. He wasn't about to give up just yet, but at the same time... sheesh, what he say did sound pretty pessimistic, didn't it? He sheepishly thought that he probably could have handled that better.
Regardless, he managed a smile. He couldn't help it. They were pretty contagious sometimes.
"Yeah, I think... you're right. About both things. We'll just have to find a way to escape or something," he decided out loud. Getting out of the rain seemed like a better idea, however, and as Tavros continued to roll forward, he began to see some precious little buildings on the horizon.
"Oh... Oh!" He pointed for them. It was a modest little city, sure, but it was a city in itself. "I think we made it!"
At least things seemed to be taking a better turn for the moment. Sure, nothing was fixed. They were still lost with what to do about matters. But at least it didn't feel hopeless. And that was always a plus. The mood lifted slightly more, too, when Tavros pointed- and Roxas finally caught sight of the town. Really... It wasn't as warm and welcoming as Twilight Town. But... seeing something a little more lively after wandering the wood as he had? That was welcoming enough.
Enough that the tenseness he had been feeling seemed to ebb away temporarily. Still on alert, but... seeing it for real? Guess he really would be sleeping in a warm bed that night. It made his feet carry him a little faster pace by pace until he was breaking into a jog. Sorry, Tavros, he had not the intention of leaving you behind, but the idea of civilization was a little distracting and, well, exciting. And maybe he really needed to know it wasn't a dream.
Roxas, in the meantime... hadn't really accounted for the whole leaving-Tavros-behind aspect. At least not until he heard the wheels and by then, it wasn't like it seemed to him that Tavros was having any trouble. So, he had just kept going up until he reached the peak of the hilltop. And there, as the other boy had earlier pointed to, he could catch a fuller outlook of the town. It wasn't really much. But it certainly would serve as a better haven than a cave
( ... )
Tavros, unfortunately, wasn't having nearly as much luck. Despite Roxas's enthusiasm proving to be contagious, it wasn't enough to help ease his nerves as he tried to wheel himself down the slope. It wasn't far too steep, but for a person in a wheelchair, it proved to be much more than that. That is, especially when he found himself careening down the hill at a breakneck speed.
Oh, great. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he trampled Roxas with his wheelchair this time.
Luckily, Roxas wasn't caught unaware this time. But then, it was kind of hard for him to miss the. Scream. As Tavros came shooting down the hill. A dumb part of him considered trying to catch it head on, but that thought was tossed pretty fast. It would probably do more harm than good. "Whoa!" was the only thing he could manage as Tavros, wheelchair and all, barreled past him.
That didn't, however, stop him from running after the poor sap. His legs didn't carry him half as fast as those wheels did, Tavros, but he was doing his best here anyway. And hoping this new acquaintance of his would be able to slow himself before he hit a tree or a house or... Yeah, picking up the pace here. If he could just get close enough, maybe he would be able to stop him beforehand!
Tavros was trying his damndest, clutching onto the wheels in an attempt to stop him, but both the wheels and his fingers were slick from mud and rain. The filth and wetness caked onto both didn't allow for much stopping room.
That is, until Tavros got... well, it wasn't exactly lucky, but it could have been worse. One of his wheels hit a small, few-inch-deep hole just well enough to send him into a screeching halt. However, the resulting jerk wound up in him falling from his wheelchair and into the mud. Face-first.
"..."
This was pretty embarrassing, but at least it didn't wind up in a poor Taurus being crushed by his own transportation.
