"Dios" is used as singular even though it ends in an "s". Plural gods would be "dioses".

You're thinking of this as a philosophical question when it isn't. While the concept of God can include the idea of plurality and singularity contained in one being, as a matter of grammar the noun "Dios" is singular and therefore verbs following it are conjugated in the singular.
