My dream school likes me! (hopefully)

I have received an invitation for an interview at my first choice school. I am very exited (I even can't talk!). But I am a little bit afraid of the interview. I have never had one. What do they usually ask? How should I behave? It is going to be a Skype-interview, as I live outside the US ( Read more... )

I am sure there is no way I could get someone sick by Skype :-)

Thank you!

I would definitely e-mail them to see if they can postpone your interview. I can only imagine that feverishness would make talking, even in front of a computer, pretty difficult.

This! And if they can't postpone your interview, they'll at least be aware of what's going on if you seem groggy or feverish.

Good luck!

Presently I cannot even talk and pills are not working... I hope tomorrow things will change.

I disagree completely. Postpone! A friend of mine was in this position and completely bombed the interview; it was the only school she didn't get into in the end. You want to be at your best, and groggy and incoherent is not it.

Professors are people, too. They'll understand.

This. Definitely postpone the interview. Explain the situation--I'm sure that they understand. If you're really, really concerned, try calling the grad admin. I'm sure that once they realize that they can barely make out your name on the phone, it's entirely understandable why you'd want to postpone.

I would tell them your situation and give them the option to go either way. Tell them you'd be willing to do it (so you look motivated as I'm sure you are) but that you are very ill and having difficulty even talking (so that hopefully they do the polite thing and offer to postpone). This way they are aware if you're not in tip top shape, but know that you're dedicated to this program even if you are sick!
