So, I took the GRE today. Because I live at the ends of the earth, it was paper and pencil and I won't get the scores till about Dec 5 (you can do the test on computer in remote parts of Africa and Central Asia, but not New Zealand). Anyway

1) what's the worst that can happen? You don't get it (and lose some money - but I think that consideration depends on your general finances?). At least this way you won't have to spend the rest of your live wondering "but what if I had..."
2) deadlines are relative. The day the deadline closes usually is not the very day that they actually start messing around with the applications yet. So I think if you go for it and make a well prepared application, and you explain that b/c of the amazing advancements in NZ computer tests, you won't have your results yet till maybe a week later, you should be fine. Just explain it, send in the results with maybe a little note explaining them/accompanying them once you have them. If you're worried they wouldn't like this approach, you can always ask them first if this would be ok :) (Can't see why not!)
