I took the Lit GRE this morning and actually left feeling fairly confident. I could definitely tell my studying paid off. Mostly, I'm just glad to have it over!
Took Lit this morning, too, and feel pretty good about it as well. Just about what I expected - a mix of questions I knew, questions I didn't know but could make a reasonable guess on, and a few questions that left me completely stumped.
My question, though, is this: am I feeling fairly confident because my studying paid off, or was it a relatively easy version of the test that most takers will do well on?
And yes, congrats, all, on getting this test out of the way!
It didn't SEEM particularly easy to me, at least not in comparison with the sample test they sent or the one in the Princeton review book... But I could be wrong, I guess.
It tested basically what I thought it would. Paradise Lost made an appearance (at least I think it did) as did The Rape of the Lock. The Larking/Sidney/Shelley question was one of the ones that stumped me, but I cannot say I wasn't expecting it.
How quickly did you finish? I finished with, like, three minutes remaining. I was SHOCKED that there were actually people in my room taking the lit test that finished thirty minutes early.
ALL the psych people in my room finished like thirty minutes early, too.
Thanks for your response - it's so helpful to hear others' perspectives!
Yeah, I didn't feel surprised by anything either. Even the questions I wasn't prepared for were questions I knew I should have prepared for. And yes, the Larkin/Sidney/Shelley question was really hard for me, too!! I guessed, but I don't think I guessed correctly. I realized I had Sidney and Spenser confused: all those S's!
And I finished with 5 minutes remaining, though there were a couple lit people in the room that finished with 20 or 30 minutes left. I don't know how they did it either...
I just got home from taking the Lit. I'm feeling pretty confident but we'll see. For most of the ones I didn't know the answer to straightaway I was able to narrow down to two choices. I just hope I chose correctly. I can't wait 6 weeks!!!! ERGH!
I chickened out a couple of months ago and postponed to take it on Nov 8. Congrats to you all!! Am jealous, yet relieved to have not had to take it today!
Lit people: how about theory/crit? about how many questions were there? any info: much appreciated, as this is one of my (MANY, DAMMIT) weakest areas...
