I'm trying to figure out grad school finances (not applying until next year though) and have a question. Do you owe tuition every year you are in grad school (PhD) even when you are doing your research/ writing your dissertation or only for the first three years your doing coursework

At my school, we have different types of enrollment depending on what you're doing that semester. We have residence units if you're taking classes, extended residence if you're taking comps and either extended residence or matriculation & facilities if you're writing your dissertation. This is to ensure that you have access to the university library and other stuff you need while you're doing your work
