The OP doesn't specifiy if they mean the general or a subject one as far as I could see, but I'm tired so I might have missed it. By mentioning math, it does sound like the general. However, "still knowing the concepts" sounds like subject, since concepts learned in college aren't what the GRE general tests.
As someone who waited to take the general test and is now regretting it. Take the test it's good for 2 years (at least). As for work experience, I have three years in my field (Communications/Marketing). Normally I suggest taking a year or two to have some experience, but if you are looking to be an English prof., the sooner you are in grad school the better from what I've heard.

You are probably looking at the dates for the subject tests. The computer-based general exam is offered year-around (if you click on "register for a GRE test," then "register for the general test," then the tab that says "test dates," you will find this information).
No problem at all. :) I did forget to specify that I was referring to the general test. I also forgot to mention that I'm from the Philippines and will be applying as an international student, so my GRE schedules are most likely different from the ones in the US.
Yes, test dates for international sites are different. You may also still have the option of taking the paper general test, which those of us in the US mostly don't have. If you can take the paper test, I'd recommend doing so. Then you won't have to stress about getting the first questions wrong messing up your whole score.
I had no work experience related to my field, and was never out of school before enrolling in graduate school. This worked well for me, others seem to like taking time off.
I'd advise taking the GRE as soon as you have had time to study. Waiting won't help unless you haven't had enough time to prepare.
the lit GRE is offered only twice a year, I think. And yes, you do want to take it soon after undergrad, because it's basically regurgitating a lot of cocktail party facts.
As for work experience...it probably won't help, but also won't hurt your application if you take 1-3 (maybe 5?) years off. it's really a personal decision. I'm off to grad school next year after 2 years off...and it was a great decision for me.
