Ive done both. There is nothing. I know that UCI is having a grad admits day for the SOC department this weekend, I think I just might send an email to find out whats going on.

Hey, I'm a 1st year History MA student at Claremont Graduate University.

What is your area of interest? (I'm studying 19th Century American History with a focus on social history and gender history myself.)

Have any questions I can answer?

Feel free to e-mail me if you'd like.

Sorry I can't help with the UC Irvine question, other than suggesting you check who_got_in

I got one of those, too. I think it just means they got the info. I don't expect to get into UCI...

Yeah, I'm not sure of the content of the email, but I do know that very often financial aid fafsa processing is distinct from the department. If it's just a form letter, I don't think it's evidence of anything other than that they got the info/you need to send the info/are in the system as an applicant.

I thought a fin aid contact meant I was in at a school. Found out later I was wrong. That sucked.

I went to UCR for two years of my undergrad, and I have to say compared to UCLA (where I ended up finishing up), UCR actually beats UCLA in some areas (personally speaking, of course).

Great campus (and small! so it feels comfy), so so so much cheaper to live there, and you can always head to either LA or SD for the weekend! :)

Good luck!

p.s. I did History as an undergrad, so I know the History Dept. at UCR is super-friendly. I dunno about the grad school, but the advisors at the History Dept. were awesome!
