Are some of your programs housed in a Department/College of Education? Because that would explain the MAT...

I took the GRE once and the MAT twice. I did awful on the GRE, so next time around I chose to take the MAT. For me, the MAT was easier to study for. However the MAT, you have to answer something like 200 questions in 50 minutes so you have to be good with managing your time while answering the questions (that took me alot of practice). I took the MAT the first time, did ok; decided I wanted to try to improve my score so I studied again a few months later and took it again and improved my score by 25 points. Also the MAT was like $50 to take, while the GRE is more than that. To study I went to my local library and took out a few of those MAT study booklets. They did really help.

If you have a documented learning disability, you can apply for extra time on the GRE. You just need to get your schools disability service people to fill out some forms to send in to ETS.
