MAT vs. GRE

Hi everyone. As I look over some of my school choices admission requirements, some say GRE or MAT, some say GRE only, some say MAT only.

I would like advice on what test you guys recommend more to take. To give some background I've decided to apply to grad schools in the school counseling field for primary education. Before I made that final decision I was mostly looking at general counseling psychology, and then I was going to narrow that choice down to what fits. Most of the time I was seeing those programs ask primarily for the GRE.
I'm not sure the reason for MAT in the mix.

In learning that the MAT is only analogies it makes that test so tempting to take over the GRE. The GRE has me very scared with all the different arenas it tests, particularly the math portion. To add more fuel to the fire and my nerves, during my college career I was getting learning disability assistance for test anxiety and also help with notes, as my biggest problem with tests is not completing them as fast as normal individuals. I've always needed more time.

I suppose it's unavoidable that I'll have to take both the GRE and MAT.

Another question for those of you that took both, did that help because maybe you had a higher score on the one test than the other? Is it possible to submit both scores?

Any advice would be so very helpful. Thank you very much.

Also I haven't had a chance to truly study for the MAT yet, am I fooling myself into thinking this is much easier than the GRE? Is it actually much harder?

I better stop before a babble out a book.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

mat, gre-general
