Title: Sleep
Fandoms: Hamlet (Shakespeare)
Words/Rating: 200+ words / G-rated parody?
Summary: To sleep or not to sleep, that is the question.
Author's Notes: Please forgive me,
Shakespeare.
To sleep or not to sleep, that is the question.
Whether 'tis better for the soul to enjoy
the joys and laughter of beloved friendship,
or to bed down within a nest of pillows.
And by sleeping to hug them? To sleep: to surf no more,
and by this "surf" to say we end
the reading of the thousand amusing posts
that one's friends are prone to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be avoided. To sleep, to surf;
To surf, perchance to post: ay, there's the rub;
For in that realm of friends what posts may come
When we have refreshed this friends list,
Must give us merry: there's the entertainment
That makes calamity of so long absence;
For who could miss the whips and scorns of slash,
The bank account's emptiness, the fangirl's ecstasy,
The pangs of uncommented fics, the troll's flames,
The insolence of fanbrats and the homage
That eager followers of the BNF make,
When they themselves might their reputation make
With their own merits? who would someone seek,
To squee and burble over a trivial point,
But that the love of fandom after canon,
The uncharted territory from whose reaches
All writers return, scratch their heads
And write us rather long those fics we crave
Which soar to heights that we knew not of?
Thus curiousity does make insomniacs of us all;
And thus the circadian rhythm of nature
Is run o'er by the gnawing wish for entertainment,
And people of otherwise good judgment
With this regard their sleep schedules turn awry,
And lose the desire to bed. - Hark you now!
The inevitable Sandman! Come, in thy grains
Be all my dreams imagin'd.
... this proves, without a doubt, that I really should be in bed.
