I agree entirely. I used to love digg, back when it was amazing for a story to pass 1000 diggs. Ever since then I've liked it less and less, and it's been terrible to see little kids ruin a great idea. The thing that I hate most is that watching Diggnation is one of the things I seriously look forward to every week, and now what will happen to it? Sure, they will do their best to salvage it, but as good as the show is, how can it be good if Digg itself is utter crap? I hope to god in heaven that this blows over, a bunch of people are banned, and Digg goes back to being semi-decent.
I genuinely liked Digg when I found out about it via the new iTunes podcasting section, but then a few months later I stopped using it for a long time, and I came back to this. Bleh, my day is ruined.
people were already doing this earlier. there was an uproar before about how a tiny percentage of Digg users were responsible for controlling and submitting the majority of front page/popular content.
Teehee. Why'd make a big thing out of it? I never watched digg anyway. The HD-DVD story went completely past me, but as I now understand (yeah, I watched the digg frontpage for the first time in my life) it's about digg removing that code '09-F9-11-02-9D-74-E3-5B-D8-41-56-C5-63-56-88-C0'?
Oh, and people just don't understand how the web 2.0 works. That large companies own central meetingplaces on the net, that Internet isn't decentral at all.
I often wondered about what Internet could be if it wasn't for the large companies. Jabber is a great example of how it could work, Usenet is kinda dead without good moderation (though still great fun for downloading.) One of the main problems is people rather pay with their soul (ehm, privacy) than buying or setting up their own services.
