queer rtorrent problem

Dec 10, 2007 21:49

So I found myself banned on this one tracker today, so I wander into their IRC channel to ask why. My ratio was fairly good, the account was active enough, etc. Turns out my rtorrent install on one of my servers was identifying as "//". But it was rtorrent! So I had no idea wtf was going on. It only took me a good thirty minutes to figure out ( Read more... )

Hmm, I don't really think spoofing clients is a good idea, but I don't run any big trackers :)

rtorrent definitely supports seeding rules, but I don't think you can terminate the client automatically. i like rtorrent a fair bit, but the biggest reason why i'm using it is because it's one of those globally acceptable clients on all the trackers i'm on.

Wow, I'm afraid I wouldn't have come to that solution. Thank Go...ogle for Google.
I'm about to buy a WD My Book World Edition NAS - slow as hell, but it can run rTorrent. I'm sure I won't run into the same trouble. Perhaps I'll even install Transmisison, theClutch web interface is incredibly sexy.

It would have taken me a LOT longer to figure out the problem if I didn't see that ticket.

Anyway, I'm not fond of those types of NASs. Wish there were some cheap but better solutions :(

what 'type' are you referring to, exactly? Home NASs that have to be hacked to run your software? Those with 1gbps ethernet but 5mbps transfer speed?
I'm not fond of it either; yet with the current prices of €170 it's only about 50 USD more expensive than the cheapest 750GB 'bare' HDD. I'm too stupid to install something workable on my Athena thin-client and the WL-500/700 from Asus are also pretty expensive compared to the WD solution.

Well, they're limited, can't easily change drives, and well, they're limited. i'm sure you read plenty of sites like boingboing going on about how a WD NAS can't share certain files - rather, I should note, most media files regardless of copyright/DRM status - in certain ways. i don't pay money to buy crippled products. i will willingly pay more to get a quality product.
