Yeah, when Multnomah County briefly issued licenses several years ago (i.e., 2004) it was suddenly one of those "on" things, before it became, "off" and then "on" ... and then "off" again. During that time, however, all of those whose job was to handle the marriage process seemed very happy. It was not only new to those getting married, it was new to those handling the marriage process. This was something new in equal rights and they new they were making history. When Marty and I filled out our application (?) we filled it out at home and took it to our local Damascus city hall to be notorized. Everyone behaved just as you described with the people in Yreka.
Aside from the "newness" for those supporting marriage process, I wonder if there is a certain excitement and happiness they experience with same-sex marriages versus opposite-sex marriages?
So, again, MAJOR congratulations!!!!!! Here's hoping next year it will become legal in Oregon!
