When I say the music was out of place, I mean it didn't fit that time period, and I'm referring to the pop kind of music they used, like "Lady Marmalade" and "Because We Can.")
In the commentary, they mention that they did this because the "oompah" music of the time period was so different and new, like the pop music they used in the movie. I happen to LOVE the idea of that. No one would have liked Moulin Rouge if they'd used msuic from the actual time period.
Did you see A Knight's Tale? They did the same thing with the music.
Moulin Rouge is one of my favorites, and I'm sad you didn't appreciate it. I think it's fantastic and sad and I cry every time, damnit. I want them to make it a stage show. And I'd KILL to play Nini, the bitchy black-haired dancer. She's awesome.
*shrug* I don't like that kind of music to begin with anyway, but I just thought it was weird. Like, I felt like it would have been easier to believe if they hadn't said the time period. Because they said it was 1899, through the whole thing I was going, "...No one knew what the hell a "soul sister" was back then, you know..."
Yeah. Whenever people tell me I HAVE to see something, it's wonderful, it's great, blah, blah, I'm always a tougher critic than I usually would be.
Yes, he is weird. R&J was weird too. I liked that better though, I think.
But it's like practically over after "Roxanne," and I still didn't really care afterward. In fact, when she died, I was hoping she'd do so quicker so it would end... o__o Even Eponine could drag it out that long, man.
For the record, I did enjoy "Spectacular, Spectacular" very much. Other than that, it was quite a let down. I was hoping it was going to really pick up after that.
Wow, look what you started!!! Cool, btw..sorry, loved moulin, knight's tale and bring it on. I'm such a child..but honestly...jiggling jello boobs..ya gotta laugh!!

You aren't the only one who didn't like Moulin Rouge, but those that like it are hardcore about it.
Either way, I still wanna play the bitchy dancer.
