Summary: Jonghyun didn’t know what he was getting into when he fell in love with Lee Jinki. He was used to having all the answers and information, but as he learns more about Jinki, who and what he is, he starts to wonder if there was any humanity left in the world.
AN;; Both of these fics are coming to a close. Already? I’m just. Goodness. November is getting closer. I’m so nervous, you don’t even know. But after I finish these fics, I’m going to finish off October with an extension of Tell Me Goodbye. It’ll be a JongHo, maybe around four to six parts (because I’ve been craving some angsty JongHo). I’ll also work on those requests and try to get them done before November too, but no promises on that.

Report #7 - A Test
Memory deletion will be complete for the Subject today. Jonghyun remains in isolation until they meet on the field. I am a little bit curious to see his power without the restraint of his humanity programming. I suppose I shall have to wait until we pit them against each other. Run memory database.

They drove without a destination. Jinki and Jonghyun would switch off driving so the other one could sleep. They would stop every now and then for food and for gas. When it all became too much though, they would stop at a shady motel somewhere and spend the night sleeping in each other’s arms.
By now, the Syndicate was probably crawling all over the place looking for them. All they could do was keep moving and hope for the best.
Jonghyun was driving that night. His window was rolled down as he rested his arm on the door, leaning his head on his fingers. Jinki was asleep in the passenger’s seat. Jonghyun glanced over to him and sighed. The lines of worry and exhaustion were etched across his face, even in his sleep.
Times like these, he wondered if Jinki regretted falling in love with him. Jonghyun knew it was impossible for him not to fall in love. He was smitten the second he laid eyes on him all those years ago in high school. Maybe I should’ve stayed away from him... He thought sadly to himself. But then he shook his head. It wouldn’t have made a difference.
They Syndicate would still be after Jinki. And worse, he wouldn’t have anyone to protect him. Or anyone to make him suffer like this, Jonghyun thought bitterly to himself. If there was anyone on the planet that deserved a good life, it was Jinki.
Jonghyun glanced away from the road to Jinki again and saw him blinking silently at the road. Jonghyun’s expression softened as he sighed. “Jinki. You should get some more sleep.” Jinki just shook his head and stretched in his seat. “How long have you been driving?” He asked, still slightly asleep.
“A while.” Jinki yawned and looked over at Jonghyun. “Do you want to switch?” Jonghyun chuckled and raised an eyebrow. “You’re still half asleep. I think I’d rather behind the wheel right now. But no, I’m not tired yet.” Jinki just stared at him and grinned sadly.
The road stretched into the night. Jinki felt the cool breeze rushing in from Jonghyun’s open window and let it wash over him. “You know... they’re going to find us eventually,” Jinki said. Jonghyun looked over at him. “I know.”
“Can we... can we go back to the apartment?” Jonghyun raised an eyebrow. “Which one?” Jinki bit his lip and locked his gaze on the road. “The one before we moved to the house with the others.” Jonghyun licked his lips and looked over at Jinki. “Why?”
“Just... I have something there... I kinda wanted...” His voice trailed off as his gaze traveled down. Jonghyun swallowed and sighed. This wasn’t going to end well. But if it was what he wanted.

It took them a few days to reach the familiar apartment. Aside from the house, this was the place they stayed at the longest. Nothing seemed to change around here. Jinki fished the key to the apartment out of his pocket and unlocked the door. Everything was how the left it that day. Everything was lined with a coat of dust.
Jinki stumbled his way to the bedroom while Jonghyun wandered around the living room, keeping his eyes peeled. Jinki came back with a small bundle of cloth that he recognized to be one of Jinki’s old favorite t-shirts.
“We came back here for your shirt?” Jinki rolled his eyes and unfolded his shirt, revealing a small box with a ribbon tied around it. Jonghyun glanced at it curiously. Jinki opened it with a small grin as Jonghyun’s expression softened.
“Jinki...” Inside of the box were two rings. Jinki pulled one out and held it up to Jonghyun. “This is what I was saving my money up for with the supermarket job.” Jonghyun took it from him and examined it carefully. It was a simple platinum band. On the inside, he noticed the inscription.
Like fire and ice.
He furrowed his eyebrows and tried to think of the meaning. He felt Jinki take the ring from him and slip it into his finger. He noticed the matching one on Jinki’s finger and couldn’t help but grin before pulling the other boy into his arms.
“I was going to give it to you when we came back from work that day. I was going to cook dinner and everything.” Jonghyun nodded silently. So that’s why he wanted to know if they were ever going to come back here. He ran his fingers through Jinki’s hand before pulling him closer for a passionate kiss that would leave the both of them breathless.
“The inscription,” Jonghyun said in between kisses to Jinki’s jawline, “what does it mean?” Jinki chuckled and leaned his head back, allowing Jonghyun to attack his neck.
“Opposites attract. You’re the Yin to my Yang, etcetera.” Jonghyun chuckled. “You’re so cheesy you know that?”
“You wouldn’t have me any other way.”
Their moment of hapiness was short lived, as they always were. Jonghyun felt the tension in the air again and abruptly straightened up. “Jonghyun?” He didn’t even get to reply to Jinki because something broke through a window with a small clinking noise. Jonghyun felt a pain in his neck and swore.
He pulled out a dart and growled as he threw it onto the ground. “Jonghyun! You’re bleeding!”
“I’ll be... I’ll be...” His vision started to swirl as Jinki caught him before he fell. “Fuck. What did they put in that thing...” Jonghyun heard the far off noise of windows crashing and doors being kicked open. The last thing he saw was the look of horror on Jinki’s face before he blacked out.

Key wandered down the hallways of the facility. The stark white and steel was always a pleasant sight in his eyes. He was on his way to pay a visit to Jonghyun when he stopped suddenly at a particular room. A slight smile curled onto his face as he opened the door.
“Taemin. Minho. What a pleasure to see the two of you.” They were just pawns in his little game. Both of them were strapped to the wall, completely immobile.
“You’re a sick bastard, you know that?” Taemin spit at him. Key just smirked. Taemin was always one of his favorites. The boy was a little more perceptive than he let on. Minho just stared at him coldly. Key walked up to Minho and grabbed his chin with cold fingers.
“Fuck you,” was all he said to Key. Taemin was still struggling with his bonds. “Where’s Jonghyun? Where’s Jinki? What the hell are you doing to them?!”
“Them? Just a game. I just wanted to see who was stronger.” Key let go of Minho and turned to leave the room. “Which I will get to find out very soon.” The door closed, leaving the two alone in the room.
Taemin stopped struggling and breathed hard. “Was that convincing enough?” He asked Minho with a smile in his voice. Minho grinned and turned to look at Taemin. “You are incredibly brilliant sometimes. You know that? Key’s underestimating us. Especially Jonghyun.” Minho relaxed against the wall.
“If they’re going to be fighting soon, then we’ll be out of here faster than I thought we would. If it’s a game he wanted, it’s a game he’ll get.”

Jonghyun was standing on the same field again. He looked around his surroundings, clearly confused as to what was going on. “What the hell? Where am I?” The large garage door opened, and Jinki walked out, immaculately dressed. There wasn’t any expression on his face as he entered the field.
Jonghyun turned around to stare at him and raised an eyebrow. “Nice suit buddy. Know what’s going on?” Jinki didn’t answer him. He just stood there and stared at him for a moment. “Jonghyun?” The other man raised his eyebrow.
“Yeah... that’s my name. But how do you know it? Do I know you?” Jinki furrowed his eyebrows, trying to remember something that was lost to him. “Yes. I’m Jinki. You’re Jonghyun. I... I don’t remember anything else. But I know we’re in love.” Jonghyun chuckled.
“Really? I guess I wouldn’t mind that... You’re pretty cute. So... What are we doing here?” Jinki bit his lip. Why couldn’t he remember anything? It was right there on the tip of his mind, but it was gone, out of his grasp.
“Shall we begin sir?” Key sat back in his chair, looking at the camera monitors with a smile on his face. “Of course. Whenever you’re ready Rain.” Rain turned on the microphone.
“Activate Project Lucifer.” Jinki’s head slumped down for a moment before he snapped it back up, eyes glowing blue.
“Whoa! What the hell?” Jonghyun waved his hands in front of Jinki’s face without getting a response. “Okay...” He said looking around nervously.
“Kill switch engage.” Jonghyun let out an anguished yell as he clutched his head. It felt like his head was trying to split in two. Suddenly, he stopped moving and stood up, eyes glowing red. Key smirked a triumphant smirk. “Finally! Let the show begin!”

It was a fight unlike any other. Their speed was inhuman, and the sickening cracks that were resounded when their blows on each other landed made anyone who could hear it cringe. For the most part, it looked like they were evenly matched.
They were broken, they were bloody. But they still willed their bodies to fight each other. Jinki didn’t notice the pained looks on Jonghyun’s face every time he landed a blow on Jinki. Jonghyun didn’t know how much longer he could take doing this.
Key watched as Jinki blocked one of Jonghyun’s attacked and kicked him across the field with satisfaction. Jonghyun got up and popped his neck before resuming his attacks on Jinki. This went on for at least half an hour until they both got a hold of each other’s throats. They stood still in the middle of the field that way.
Key watched them on the monitor curiously. He didn’t notice the smirk that formed on Jonghyun’s face as his other hand went to break Jinki’s grip on his throat. “This will only hurt for a second, Jinki,” he said as softly as he could. He broke his grip and slammed him down into the ground with inhuman strength, blowing up dust around them.
Under the cover of dust, Jonghyun pressed his ring to Jinki’s and kissed him hard. Jinki’s eyes widened as a dam broke in his mind. It was like his memories were being loaded back into his brain, a strange tingling sensation was coming from his hand.
Jinki’s eyes widened, not turning back to brown. Jonghyun pulled away and smirked at Jinki. “Jonghyun. What’s going on?” Jonghyun shook his head and moved a finger to his lips. “Just play along.” His eyes flashed brown for a moment before turning back to red. He knew what Jonghyun wanted to do. And it wasn’t every day he got to beat up his lover.
“I can’t see anything! Rain! FIX THIS!” Rain shifted through all the camera angles until he returned back to the original one. Suddenly, they saw Jonghyun’s body go flying again from the dust cloud and hit the brick wall, sending him slumped down to the ground.
“Much better. But this fist fight is getting boring. Get them some guns. And throw in some of the forces will you.”
“Cease.” Jonghyun and Jinki froze on the field and stood still, waiting for further orders. The forces trooped in, surround the two now standing back to back. They were both armed now, and quite heavily in fact. Suddenly, Key noticed something funny. Jinki and Jonghyun raised their guns without being told and were already starting to pick off the forces.
“Rain. What’s going on? I didn’t hear you give them any orders.”
“I didn’t sir.”
The two of them turned to look directly at the camera. Jonghyun raised a gun and shot out the camera.
“What the fuck?! RAIN!” Jonghyun continued to shoot out the rest of the cameras until all Key could hear was audio feedback from the field.
“Oh Key,” he heard Jonghyun say in a sing-song voice. “I’m coming for you.”
