Report #6 - Altercation
A few modifications have been made to the Subject. It seems the malicious programming has resolved itself. I was right in deleting the memory database. There is only a little bit left now. Run memory database.

Life went on as usual, but everyone seemed to be much more paranoid and on edge, especially Jonghyun. He refused to leave Jinki’s side. Key beefed up security on the house and spent his time constantly on the phone with the intel team back at home base. No one seemed to want to go anywhere, but staying trapped in the house all day was driving Jonghyun insane.
“It’s so freaking hot... If you can run all your little computer stuff in there, why can’t you fix the air conditioning?” Jonghyun whined from the floor. The hardwood floor was the coolest thing in the house besides the freezer, but Taemin was occupying that at the moment.
“What am I? The repair man?” Key yelled from his room. “Get Minho to do it!” Jonghyun groaned and rolled over, rolling onto Jinki, who was enjoying another book. “Why don’t you just do it Jonghyun?” Jonghyun rolled over again and propped himself up onto his elbows looking scandalized.
“It’s too hot to do anything.” Jinki rolled his eyes before closing his book and sitting up. He headed over tot he backyard doors and reached through the curtains, opening of the sliding doors, letting the breeze flow into the room. Jonghyun sighed as he felt the cool air hit his skin.
Jinki smiled at Jonghyun as the curtains billowed around him. “There’s a nice breeze out. If I weren’t afraid of bullets flying at me, I’d go read outside.” Jonghyun smirked and stood up, wandering over to Jinki to pull the other boy onto the couch. Jinki was sitting in his lap while he wrapped his arms around his waist and buried his face into his back.
“You have an extraordinary luck with bullets not hitting you. How long have we been doing this? And you still haven’t been shot yet. Whereas I have been shot at least two or three times.”
“I have magical dodging skills,” Jinki said as he laughed. He shifted on Jonghyun’s lap so he was sitting on the couch, but his legs were still over his lap. Jinki leaned on his shoulder and sighed. “It’s probably because you’re so good at saving my life. It’s a bit ridiculous.” Jonghyun nodded with a smirk on his face.
“It’s one of my specialties. That and making sweet love to you.” Jinki laughed as Jonghyun planted a sloppy kiss on his cheek.
“Oh god. You guys are so gross. Key was totally right.” Taemin’s voice floated over from the kitchen. “Oh yeah, I forgot you and your tiny self was in the kitchen hogging all the cold in the freezer.” Suddenly the air conditioner kicked in.
“Oh my god, what?! Is that AC?” The front door opened, and a very sweaty Minho came in, tool belt around his waist, wiping sweat away from his forehead. “You’re welcome,” he said before turning down the hallway towards the bathroom.
--
The summer came to a close. Key deemed it safe to go outside, so on the last week of summer, they decided to have a barbecue in the backyard. Key was manning the grill while the others were playing a game of football.
Jonghyun tackled Minho down to the ground with a thud and got up with a huge smile on his face. “Yes!” He pumped his fist in the air before helping him up. The football game turned into a competition between him and Minho. Their teammates ended up sitting off to the side cheering them on. Eventually, Taemin got up to go help Key at the grill, leaving Jinki behind to watch them play.
They gave up with the score tied, stomachs rumbling. Jinki dabbed at the sweat on Jonghyun’s forehead as he stood there with his hands on his hips, catching his breath. Jinki helped the others bring the food over to the small patio table and sat down next to Jonghyun, leaning over to give him a kiss for once, ignoring the fact that he was still sweaty.
Jonghyun grinned and started to shovel food onto Jinki’s plate. “Hurry up and eat already.” They five of them sat at the table, talking, joking, laughing, and eating, just like normal people would. Jonghyun was enjoying it until an uneasiness settled on his heart halfway through dinner.
He stopped laughing and looked around, eyebrows furrowed in slight confusion. “Do you guys hear that?” They other stopped talking and looked around before turning back to Jonghyun. “No. I don’t hear anything,” Taemin said.
“I know. The silence in kind of... eerie.” Jinki started to feel nervous along with Jonghyun. Key just shook his head. “It’s the dead of heat in the summer. We’re probably the only ones who are even stupid enough to step outside right now.” Jonghyun rolled his eyes at Key.
“And who’s bright idea was this anyway? Uh, I believe it was yours.”
“Well excuse me if I want to enjoy my last week of summer.” Jonghyun and Key bickered back and forth. The other smiled as they continued eating, all feelings of foreboding lost in the insults flying back and forth between the two.
After dinner was finished, Key, Minho, and Taemin went inside to wash dishes while Jinki and Jonghyun remained outside to clean up the trash and various bits of food that were thrown between himself and Key.
The night air was refreshing as he glanced sideways at Jinki throwing away plastic cups into the trash bag. Then he felt it. Jonghyun straightened up and looked towards the backyard doors. “Jinki. Don’t make any sudden moves. Walk towards me, but don’t look back behind you.” Jinki stiffened and looked scared.
“What? Why? What’s wrong?”
“They haven’t started the dishes. I haven’t heard anything from inside since they went in.” Jinki gulped and moved towards Jonghyun. The summer breeze blew the curtain hanging over the open door, letting Jonghyun catch a glimpse of a man in a black suit and sunglasses, gun pointed and aimed at Jinki.
Jonghyun lunged out and grabbed Jinki, dragging him behind the tree in the backyard for cover as a gunshot rang out. “Fuck! I knew we should’ve left!” Jonghyun looked around for an escape route before tackling the tree. A gun fell out tied on a string.
“What the hell?” Jinki asked looking completely shocked. “Taemin hid guns everywhere.”
“What about the others? What happened to them?” Jonghyun peeked out from behind the trees to see the curtain ripped down. Taemin and Minho were cuffed and on their knees. Taemin noticed Jonghyun and his eyes went wide.
“RUN! You have to leave! He’s working for them!”
“Well obviously if he’s shooting at me!” Jonghyun shouted back, ducking back behind the tree as another bullet whizzed past. “NO! Not him! K-” He heard a sickening crunched followed by an angry yell. They knocked him out. Jonghyun didn’t even have time to process his words.
He bit his lip, looking for possible escape routes. “Well shit. Jinki. We’re going to be hopping fences. And I swear to god, we will get out of this.” He gripped Jinki’s hand and looked back and forth. “Are you ready?” Jinki swallowed and nodded. Jonghyun peeked back out the ran, dragging Jinki behind him and shooting.
Both of them jumped the fence to the neighbor’s yard, running for dear life as they got chased. Jonghyun brought his watch up to his face and pressed a button with his chin. “Dad! Dad!”
All he got was static then a loud tone. “What a pity Jonghyun. Your dad has been indisposed.” Jonghyun swore at the garbled voice and took off his watch with his teeth, throwing it onto the sidewalk. “God fucking dammit...” They jumped over a car in the street and kept running.
“Jonghyun! Where are we going?!”
“I don’t know! Far away! We’re unarmed, we don’t have a vehicle. And my dad is dead. Shit. Shit for shit.” Suddenly, Jinki sped up his running and tugged Jonghyun along. “I know somewhere we can go. Come on!”
--
After running furiously for what seemed like forever, they came upon an abandoned car garage on the outskirts of the city. Jonghyun collapsed onto the dirt floor ready to pass out. His chest rose and fell rapidly as he took deep breaths, watching Jinki lean on the one car in the place.
“What... what is this place?” Jonghyun asked, sitting up and looking around. “Minho’s garage. He brought me here once to show me the car he was working on. He took Taemin out here all the time.” Jonghyun pushed himself up off the ground and started to look through all the drawers and tool cabinets.
“Here are the keys to the car.” Jonghyun turned around to see Jinki holding up a pair of keys. Jonghyun slammed the small tool chest closed and opened the bottom compartment of the larger one. “And I found all of Taemin’s toys.” Jinki unlocked the car and sat down in the driver’s seat, admiring Minho’s handiwork.
“What’s going to happen to them?” He asked Jonghyun as he loaded up. “I don’t know Jinki. I know that we won’t be able to save them if we get caught too. Shit. I don’t even know what to do. Dad’s gone, his men are gone, everyone else is gone. Goddamit.” Jonghyun leaned against the car and ran a hand through his hair.
“I guess we do what we always do. We run.” Jonghyun sighed and finished loading everything up. He managed to find some cash and suspected Minho was saving it for a rainy day.
“I’m sorry for getting you involved in this mess. I don’t even know why they want me so bad.”
“It’s okay Jinki just... Just don’t lose faith okay? I’ll be here for you, you’ll be there for me.”
“Always. Let’s get out of here.”
“Can you even drive a stick?”
“I can probably do a lot of things you don’t know about.”

Running can only delay the inevitable. The memory database has shut itself down, preventing me from further deletion. I will finish the rest tomorrow. And then we shall see what happens when we pit them against each other. I hope these reports have been satisfactory Mr. Kim.

Jinki sat nervously in a white room. It didn’t seem to begin or end anywhere. Jinki stook up and walked cautiously with his arms out until he bumped into a wall, looking around nervously. “Hello there Jinki.” Jinki jumped at the voice that echoed around the room. He pressed himself against the wall and looked around wildly.
“Do you know who I am?” A projection appeared on the wall opposite of him. Jinki stared at the man’s face for a moment before squinting his eyes. “...Key?” Key smirked and nodded. “Looks like you haven’t forgotten me after all.”
“Key! What’s going on? They’re doing weird stuff to Jonghyun, and they told me I’m some sort of weapon or something! And my memories! I know something’s missing. I know that my memories just don’t start whenever I woke up in this room!”
Key pursed his lips and leaned over. “Seems like they’re doing their job then.” Jinki was taken aback. “What? What are you talking about Key?”
“Oh Jinki. Of course I know what’s going on. I created you.”
“...You... You what?” Jinki slumped down against the wall, looking terribly confused.
“I. Created. You. Jonghyun was just a test subject from the Cartel. I was sent to investigate him upon his creation by the Syndicate. How else did you think we kept finding you?” Jinki’s eyes widened as he covered his mouth.
“You... YOU BASTARD! He’s your best friend! He trusted you!”
“No such thing in a world like ours.” Key checked for dirt under his fingernails before lacing his fingers together and resting his head on them.
“Once Rain finishes up with your memory deletion, I’ll finally be able to see who was more successful. Me, or the Cartel. He’s already finished with Jonghyun. His mind seems to be easier to get into than yours. Something I’m proud of.” Jinki froze in horror. They were doing this to Jonghyun too?
“But why?... Why Key?” Key looked at him with hard eyes through the projection. “Why? WHY? The question isn’t why, but why not?” He sat back in his chair and looked off to the side.
“It was disgusting watching you two over the years. You and your little ‘love’. How do bioweapons love? They’re not even supposed to feel. They’re not even supposed to have humanity, let alone morals!” He slammed his hand on his desk but took a deep breath before smiling sadistically at Jinki.
“Soon, we’ll see who’s better. Soon.” The projection disappeared from the wall. Jinki took in a deep breath, unaware that he had stopped breathing. He knew what was going to happen. He was going to have to fight Jonghyun, and with their memories deleted, one of them was going to die.
