“Are you getting Sunggyu anything for White Day?” Myungsoo asked during lunch while Sungjong and Sungyeol whispered to each other off to the side.
“I don’t know. He hasn’t said anything about it. Or even mentioned that he’s wanted anything lately.” Sunggyu was spending lunch in the library finishing up his homework. He told Woohyun not to come bother him because he needed to get it done, putting Woohyun in a slightly off mood.
“Why don’t you try doing something nice for him instead of just buying him things? You know, take him out, cook for him.” Woohyun blinked at Myungsoo like he was speaking for a foreign language.
“Sing him a song instead. You’ve got a good voice too.” Woohyun thought about it. The weather was warming up finally. It was spring, and the days were full of sunshine and warm breezes now, instead of the ice cold wind from last week. He could take Sunggyu out on a picnic for White Day. That was doable. He could wake up early that Saturday and make some food and...
“All my food’s already gone, isn’t it?” Woohyun asked without looking down.
“Do you even have to ask?” Hoya said as he finished up the last of Woohyun’s dessert.
“You know, you guys are lucky that I don’t pass out during practice or something.”
“You always bring a sandwich to eat in your next to last class. It’s been that way since... I don’t know. Since forever. It’s probably sitting in your book bag right now,” Dongwoo said, leaning over to open up Woohyun’s bag. Woohyun slapped his hand away with a frown.
“That’s the one thing I refuse to let you eat. I don’t want to starve and die. Do you want me to starve and die?”
“No. Because then we’ll starve and die.”
--
“You’re free for White Day, right?” Woohyun asked as he dropped Sunggyu off at his house after soccer practice. Sunggyu leaned into the window and furrowed his eyebrows.
“I dunno. I think my other boyfriend already said he would take me out.” Woohyun tried to reach over to hit him, but Sunggyu withdrew his head from the window and laughed.
“Yes, I am. Why?”
“Tell your other boyfriend that I’m taking you out and that he should back off before I make him disappear off the face of the planet.”
“Ow, sounds scary. Sounds like something your fanclub would do.” Woohyun shook his head and laughed, making Sunggyu laugh too. It’d been almost a year now, and Woohyun could finally laugh about it without feeling guilty.
“I’ll be there to pick you up early.”
“Alright. What are we doing?”
“You’ll see. Bring your guitar.”
--
“I told him I’d be here early!” Woohyun said in exasperation as he stared at Sunggyu’s closed door. The light was still off, and he was probably still sleeping.
Sungyeol opened the door to his room and hopped down the stairs, checking to see if he had his phone, wallet, and keys before getting ready to set out.
“Look! Even Sungyeol is awake.”
“Woohyun. Who are you talking to?” Sungyeol asked, raising an eyebrow at him. Woohyun was sitting on the couch, fuming slightly at the fact that Sunggyu was still asleep.
“Myself, obviously.”
“You’re a little deaf then, if you have to talk to yourself that loudly.” Sungyeol laughed as he put on his shoes.
“Are you waiting for Sunggyu to get back?”
“Yeah, I’m waiting for him to wake- Wait. What? Get back? From what?”
“You didn’t even bother to open the door to see if he was still sleeping or not?” Sungyeol rolled his eyes as Woohyun flew to the door to see Sunggyu’s bed empty, sheets made.
“What? Where is he?”
“He goes out for walks and slow jogs Saturday mornings. You’d think you’d know that about your boyfriend. But he should be back soon, he’s usually gone for about half an hour to an hour.” Sungyeol bid him goodbye before disappearing out of the front door.
Woohyun sank back down in the couch of the empty house. It was strange, he thought to himself, how even though the house was empty, it still felt full. He glanced around the living room at the pictures of Sunggyu’s family. The Christmas decorations went down before Valentine’s Day, the day before if he remembered correctly.
He spent the night that night, helping Sunggyu wrap the lights so they wouldn’t get tangled while his mom flitted around the house, throwing decorations in a box and singing slightly to herself. Sunggyu told him that the song she sang while cleaning was the song his dad used to sing to her whenever she was cleaning the house back in the country.
Woohyun always admired Sunggyu’s mom.
He heard a key in the door and turned to look as Sunggyu came through the door, pulling his headphones off of his ears and wiping some sweat away from his forehead.
“Oh, Woohyun. You’re here already? When you said early, I didn’t think you meant this early,” Sunggyu said with a smile, leaning over the couch to give him a kiss. Woohyun wrinkled his nose and leaned away from him.
“You smell.”
“Whatever! You smell worse after practice.”
“I’m not taking you out smelling like that.” Sunggyu rolled his eyes and pushed open the door to his room before flipping the lightswitch on.
“Alright, alright. Let me take a shower and get dressed.”
“Or you could, you know, not get dressed after.”
“I’m not going out in public naked.”
“I wasn’t going to let you go out naked. I could forget my plans, and we can stay here all day,” Woohyun saidly loudly, staring at his nails.
“You wish. That’s what we did for Valentine’s Day.”
--
“Where are we going?” Sunggyu asked as he got in the car. Woohyun shook his head.
“Somewhere nice.” Woohyun packed Sunggyu’s guitar back into the trunk and got into the driver’s seat.
“Classes have been going good for you right?” Sunggyu asked as Woohyun drove.
“Yeah. Nothing too hard. You’re doing fine, too? I know I’m not the greatest teacher in the world but...”
“Yeah. A few things here and there I don’t get, but that’s normal. You’re not a bad teacher. Actually, now that I think about it, what kind of teacher cheats off their student?” Woohyun shushed Sunggyu before grinning at him.
Sunggyu grabbed for Woohyun’s iPod and looked through the playlists before stopping on a playlist and looking up with an eyebrow raised.
“Get my gangster on? What?”
“For when I’m feeling like a gangster. Put it on.” Sunggyu laughed and shook his head before putting the playlist on shuffle.
--
Sunggyu had to admit, even while he was driving and he was yelling at him to keep his hands on the wheel, Woohyun had some swag.
--
Woohyun pulled up at a park a way outside of the city. Sunggyu had been out there a few times when he fell asleep on the bus on the way home from school.
“It’s a nice day for a picnic, right?” Woohyun smiled at him and headed out to the trunk while Sunggyu opened up his door and stretched before heading out back and grabbing his guitar.
Woohyun grabbed a picnic basket and Sunggyu’s hand before closing the trunk of his car.
“Shall we go?”
--
The picked a spot under a shady tree. Woohyun laid out the picnic blanket and set out the food he woke up early to make. Sunggyu stared in awe at all the food.
“You made all of this, and still managed to get over to my house that early in the morning? How are you still awake?”
“I made most of this last night, except for the sandwiches and stuff. I made dessert last night,” he said, pointing over to the cupcakes and brownies on the other side of the blanket.
“It’s not ice cream, but it’s chocolate, so I figured you wouldn’t mind.” Sunggyu leaned onto Woohyun and kissed his cheek.
“Thanks. It’s perfect.”
--
“Oh. This was your big amazing plan for White Day?” Myungsoo asked, staring at Sungyeol.
“What? Don’t like the amusement park?”
“That’s not it. I was expecting something... I don’t know. More romantic.”
“Romantics are for Valentine’s Day. White Day is for having fun! Come on!” Sungyeol grabbed Myungsoo’s hand. Sungyeol paid for the ticket so it wasn’t like he would be able to say no.
“Where’s your new best friend?” Myungsoo asked. Sungyeol took his lollipop out of his mouth and laughed.
“Sungjong got grounded for not doing his homework. So it’s just us today, me and you, and all the amusement park rides. Let’s go, let’s go!” Sungyeol said, dragging Myungsoo behind him.
Myungsoo was all for spending more time with Sungyeol, but he wasn’t looking forward to riding every single ride in the amusement park.
--
“Why’d you have me bring my guitar?” The food was gone, and Sunggyu was laying on Woohyun’s lap as he leaned back on his arms.
“Because. You’re not the only one with some musical talent. Here,” Woohyun said, reaching for the guitar. Sunggyu gave him an amused look before handing it over to them.
“Oh, you’ve been practicing then?”
“Yeah for the past week. Since you’re the one always singing to me, I thought I’d sing to you for once. But uh, don’t hate on my mediocre guitar playing skills.”
“I’ve been playing all my life. I don’t expect you to be super amazing after a week.” Woohyun looked offended.
“What? What if I’m some super amazing guitar prodigy?”
“Are you?”
“No, but you can’t just rule it out.” Woohyun played a few warm up notes before clearing his throat.
“It won’t be perfect but... it’s the thought that counts right?” Sunggyu chuckled at him and nodded.
“I’m sure it’ll be amazing.” Woohyun played the intro before starting to sing.
Take me where I've never been,
Help me on my feet again.
Show me that good things come to those who wait.
Tell me I'm not on my own.
Tell me I won't be alone.
Tell me what I'm feelin' isn't some mistake.
'cause if anyone can make me fall in love,
You can.
Sunggyu heard him stumble over a few notes, but smiled anyway. He answered the lines about Woohyun not being alone, making him smile while he sang.
Save me from myself, you can.
And it's you and no one else.
If I could wish upon tomorrow,
Tonight would never end.
If you asked me, I would follow.
But for now, I just pretend.
'cause if anyone can make me fall in love,
You can.
Woohyun looked so shy when he was singing. It was something Sunggyu hadn’t seen often. Woohyun was used to throwing his money around instead of putting himself out like this, and Sunggyu really appreciated it.
Baby, when you look at me,
Tell me, what do you see?
Are these the eyes of someone you could love?
'Cause everything that brought me here,
Well, now it all seems so clear.
Baby, you're the one that I've been dreamin' of.
'cause if anyone can make me fall in love,
You can.
Save me from myself, you can.
And it's you and no one else.
If I could wish upon tomorrow,
Tonight would never end.
If you asked me, I would follow.
But for now, I just pretend.
'cause if anyone can make me fall in love...
The longer Woohyun sang, the more confident he got. Sunggyu’s smile was all the encouragement he needed to keep going.
Only you can take me sailin' in your deepest eyes.
Bring me to my knees and make me cry.
And no one's ever done this,
Everything was just a lie.
And I know, yes I know...
This is where it all begins,
So tell me it'll never end.
I can't fool myself,
It's you and no one else.
If I could wish upon tomorrow,
Tonight would never end.
If you asked me, I would follow.
But for now, I just pretend.
Cause if anyone can make me fall in love,
You can.
Show me that good things come to those who wait
As Woohyun finished the song, Sunggyu clapped and cheered loudly, making Woohyun drop his head in embarrassment.
“It’s... not as good as anything you usually do but...” Sunggyu crawled over to Woohyun and kissed him slowly, taking his time. Woohyun brought his hand up to cup Sunggyu’s cheek, shoving the guitar away from him so he could pull Sunggyu in closer.
“Thanks...”
“Least I could do,” Woohyun said, running his hand through Sunggyu’s hair.
“I am dead tired.”
“I am too. We can take a nap before we head back home.” Woohyun laid down as Sunggyu settled on his arm, throwing his arm across Woohyun’s stomach.
“What, eat too much?” Sunggyu made a whining noise.
“Okay, okay, shutting up.”
--
Myungsoo had to steady Sungyeol as he walked. The last ride made Sungyeol dizzier than he thought it would. He was leaning on Myungsoo, trying not to fall over.
“Oh my god. I did not think... that that ride would... end up like that.... How come you’re fine?” Sungyeol asked, sounding almost drunk.
“I’m magic,” Myungsoo said, almost falling over as Sungyeol pushed him.
“Whatever! I’m hungry! Let’s go eat!” Sungyeol said, spinning off in one direction. Myungsoo sighed before running over to him and grabbing his hand to drag him in the other direction.
--
Their amusement park date went well. Myungsoo got some good pictures of Sungyeol with a bow on his head and set it as the background on his phone, calling it a present to himself. Sungyeol rolled his eyes at the lame pun, and made Myungsoo put on a crown so he could take a picture.
All in all, Myungsoo thought he got the good end of the stick, because he managed to get a picture of them kissing on a rollercoaster. He changed that to his background as soon as Sungyeol fell asleep on the bus.
