1. I finished the book today, and so in order to head off the inevitable bad mood (I don't know why this happens whenever I finish something but it does and the bigger the thing I finish the worse the mood, so a book = gloom hell) I was going to read The Hanging Tree in the pub with some mulled wine

Ugh. Sounds like winter is biting down hard.

After a pretty rough November, I seem to be heading towards the worst Christmas, so my sympathy.

That doesn't bode well. Are things deteriorating politically? Do you know if you're going to remain in Kinshasa or not?

Situation hasn't changed, and I don't know what it will mean for me, but at this point I'm pretty much grimly working myself up towards the possibility of hotel-room Christmas. (Because being in my apartment, where I could pet my cat all day, and my housekeeper was going to have cinnamon rolls ready for me, would be entirely too nice for 2016.)
