Poetry

party next doorMy dedication to work today may have been blunted a little by operating on several consecutive days of >5 hours sleep and occasionally >1000 calories, but I think it took a rather more severe hit from my decision to listen to Allen Ginsberg reading "Howl" and then immediately afterwards watch/listen to a 1986 documentary ( Read more... )

Okay, I'm getting a bit worried about the dieting. If you're cutting food enough to make you feel unwell, and intermittently getting under a thousand calories, that's not good.

I don't think I ever tried going without sleep or food at the same time. The longest I ever went without sleep was five days? I don't think I've ever gone more than thirty-six hours without food.

Blatantly horrifying nightmares can be less bad in some ways than grindingly unpleasant ones. Worse in other ways (especially if they're vivid), but there's something about "Yes, this is clearly bad, and also not somehow your fault".

It doesn't really make me unwell, it's just sometimes when I'm hungry I lose focus - I'm adapting my eating pattern to spread it out more evenly over the working day and also when I say "under 1000" I do mean about 980 or whatever, not like, 500.

My maximum with sleep was about 60 hours and that was with speed, and therefore at the same time as food (but not like, energy drinks). Pretty dumb activity but I can see why it appeals... you do kind of want to know what the limits of your endurance are even if you know you're never going to reach them again.

Yeah, and also a bit less plausible. I'm really not likely to get ebola, but people HAVE broken up with me before with phrases like "this is like beating a dead horse, let's just give up please."

That's still low. Just be careful, okay? I want you to be okay, and it's easy to get out of control with dieting. (Both in terms of disordered eating and basic nutrition. The less you eat, the more nutrient-dense it has to be, and it's hard to scale it down effectively.)

Ah. Mine was accidental? A stress thing. (Years ago, hasn't happened since.)

The realism adds another layer. There's the "This isn't actually happening" relief, but it works better with "This hasn't happened, and isn't likely to."

Hopefully spreading it out a bit will help, and I'm keeping an eye on the nutrition side of things, I promise. I'm pretty sure the "not getting enough sleep" is more to blame.

Plausibility in nightmares = the worst.

How's yer sinuses?

No more plants for a couple of months at least, if not until after this winter. I suspect there is going to be more casualties between now and spring and there is no point wasting money/plant-life.

More calories MORE SLEEP. More of all the things seems to be the catchphrase of today.

Maybe winter is a good time for sowing seed

Less things, more concentration on keeping the things I have alive for a bit.
