Glad you like the books!

The theater sounds epic! When I go to the UK one day, I will be asking about theater opportunities.

People overselling the wonders of diet and exercise are so discouraging. Because they're all "This will magically make you awesome-looking and happy and feeling good in your body and all kinds of amazing!" and then you do something and you're tired and sore and still just you, and even if you're making actual health improvements it still feels like you're failing at something. Some of the health improvements are real, but they're gradual and subtle, not Health Nirvana.

I'm not sure about the cheap-and-awesome-right-by-the-action option I usually go for because it also involves standing up for 4+ hours, but there are also seats for slightly more.

Thanks, I actually needed to hear that today (and also treated myself to a fruit pie because I'm allowed).

Standing for four hours would not work for me, no. I could totally spring for seats, though.

Pie Sometimes is a good plan.

Ooh, Church Mice. If those are the ones I remember, I see a nostalgia Amazon binge in my future.

What is Fitbit/how are you getting on with it? How useful would it be for a lazy person? I seem to have completely lost the habit of exercise...

I hope they are! There's a cat called Samson as well.

https://www.fitbit.com/ <-- it's kind of a pedometer and a sleep monitor that you wear, but it has a dashboard so it shows you if you hit your targets etc, and when you hit your main target (most people set that to steps, I set it to calories), it buzzes and flashes. I find it ... roughly adequate in scolding me, although having weights in the house is helping as well.

walked five miles

My issue with the distance method of measuring exercise is that it's horribly unreliable and rigid. Time spent at target heart rate, I think, is a much more sane, stable method to measure exercise.

Distance doesn't take into account the person's overall health profile. Like, it might take you no time to get into your heart rate training (or aerobic training, whichever you actually want) zone, but your walking buddy might need an hour just to warm up to that target. So that means you're training for two hours while someone else might be training for less, all in pursuit of that five miles. It's just weird because it ends up with some people doing too much and other people not doing enough.

Basically I just feel like it doesn't matter what the chart says; if your heart says it's hard, then you are training.

Moderately disillusioned with the ongoing attempt to not be actual human garbage, which various propagandists assure me will transform me into a being made of radiant energy, clear skin, and intellectual focus ( ... )

At the moment there is dramatically little chance of me viewing it as anything other than an irritating distraction from things I actually want/need to do. If only there were some way to combine exercise and reading!

But if you worked with time spent at your target heart rate (and there are recommended times for this out there), that's more time for reading! (I don't know about you, but it would take me a long time to walk five miles).

That five miles was entirely during the course of doing other things, though, not a set "I walked five miles for no fucking reason".

Someday I'll see something at the Globe. Somehow. Someday.

I'd be more upset if Tom wasn't about to recite Midsummer Night's Dream Act 2 Scene 1 for me nude over facetime :3

BUT DANG I WANNA SEE WILLY SHAKES WITH YOU AT THE HELLMOUTH

Come to the Globe, bring your fairy paramour, and we shall all watch whatever Elizabethan trash they happen to be dangling in front of our faces. ;)
