I HAVE FINISHED THE FIRST DRAFT OF THE ANTHOLOGY FIC, WOULD ANYONE BE AMENABLE TO BETA-ING IT FOR ME?

This (and the fact that I don't have to go to work again until Wednesday) ought to be a source of triumph or at the very least relief, but unfortunately/fortunately I got a letter from my grandmother today. She's in reasonably fine fettle and I ( Read more... )

Sweeeeet. Please just make it not suck. However that happens.

Also if I do that there's a chance I can have laser eyes instead of lasered ones. RESULT.

Mine are pretty stable, but as someone pointed out further down, it would be dumb to go for this now if they're going to get worse later.

Absolutely, the fact that they're part of an NHS concern is a major factor in the theoretical decision - I don't trust private practitioners very much, when it comes down to it.

When was the last time you got your eyes tested? They might've changed since. :D

November, and they hadn't changed in the eight years since the previous one so I think they're probably stuck like this.

The thing you need to realise is that it is a One Time Only deal.

If you "correct" now and your eyesight deteriorates later in life (which is pretty much certain over time) then you will be stuck with shittier eyesight.

Lasering skims cells off the retina to make the focus better and you can't trim your retina more than once (unless you want to have no retina). If your eyesight goes from not terribly bad (now) to much much worse you won't be able to do anything (much) about it.

And (you don't want to hear this) you do not have BAD eyesight. Not reading subtitles is inconvenient, not spotting your mates across the road is a bit annoying. Barely being able to cross the road (juggernauts and port traffic, anyone?) and get your (now broken) glasses to the optitcion glasses-expert-guy is an exercise in sheer bloody fear. Sensible advice. :) Sunglasses are a fucking nightmare, though, I just have to keep switching them with ordinary glasses (having had them before). In an ideal world I wouldn't be so sodding squeamish about contact lenses.

If I can get over my contact lens issues I'm confident that with eye poking and hand holding you probably can too. !

0.5?!?! 0.25?! I am obviously not a candidate for LASIK (all the damage in my right eye) but oh man WITH glasses my right eye only gets up to a -1.25 (this is why I don't drive. The issue goes beyond just depth.) and I'm going to agree with above that the risks may not be worth the payoff for such slight adjustments.
