Absolutely, the fact that they're part of an NHS concern is a major factor in the theoretical decision - I don't trust private practitioners very much, when it comes down to it.

If you "correct" now and your eyesight deteriorates later in life (which is pretty much certain over time) then you will be stuck with shittier eyesight.
Lasering skims cells off the retina to make the focus better and you can't trim your retina more than once (unless you want to have no retina). If your eyesight goes from not terribly bad (now) to much much worse you won't be able to do anything (much) about it.
And (you don't want to hear this) you do not have BAD eyesight. Not reading subtitles is inconvenient, not spotting your mates across the road is a bit annoying. Barely being able to cross the road (juggernauts and port traffic, anyone?) and get your (now broken) glasses to the optitcion glasses-expert-guy is an exercise in sheer bloody fear.
