Wall Walk

Went to walk the London Wall, or the remains of it, with Emma, yesterday. Arrived too early and spent a while reading London Falling in the war memorial. Surprisingly warm for December, or possibly I just know how to dress for the weather. Anyway: The book continues to irritate me because the ideas are good but the characters are just collections ( Read more... )

I've only seen the bit of the Wall next to the Museum Of London, and I never made it to Leadenhall (or Borough Market for that matter) I need to make another London icon for when I discuss it with people, I deleted the one I had (of St Pauls' dome with the Thames foot bride in front of it) when I was told not to come back :-/

Edit: made a new one from one of my favourite moments while living there, seeing this Banksy :-)

I did love that Banksy. But don't miss the place too much. Everything is going to shit.

That sounds interesting, except for the book. It's cool that you know so much about your city's history.

I'm soldiering on with the book, it's right in the crook of the elbow between "no" and "yes", but I am definitely reading it for the plot and it annoys me that there isn't more work on the dialogue etc and some bits are SERIOUSLY EXPOSITIONARY DIALOGUEY.

One day that knowledge is going to produce a spectacular fuck of a book, if I can only work out what's meant to happen in it.

I was reading a research study on painters, and it said most of them tend to do their most highly-regarded work about two-thirds of the way through their lifespan (typically in their mid-forties). So you have time to figure things out.

My plan is to peak around 80 so that I stop when I physically can't write any more. :D
