the problem is i get so into the negative characteristics of the protagonists that when i was describing them to jess she was like "ugh" and i wasn't really able to defend them...

That's the big sell summary, I think the small sell summary or the anti-sell is "four white dudes from England demonstrate how shitty white English dudes can be and you're still meant to feel sorry for them".

Yeah, that's not the most marketable description. Possibly lie and claim it's a love story between a teenage white girl with brown hair and a vampire billionaire in a dystopian future?

The girl has telekinesis and can fire arrows and the dude is unreachable and changeable but he eats her tears so it's okay. Also he broods a lot.

knowing that I will kill them later on gives me the impetus to make secondary characters more sympathetic and appealing, so as to extract the maximum of unhappiness from readers when they die.
