Chapter One(First off, I will probably need to change the title as there is already a very good book by Neil Gaiman with the same name; I am considering "The True and False Reflections of Smoke and Trapdoors ( Read more... )

I have noooooot. This is a great tragedy! I'm normally not much of a one for such things - the idea kind of soured for me when I realised I couldn't actually suspend that much of my disbelief - but in the right sort of setting it seems to work. Also at least one of the characters is a staunch atheist and is FURIOUS about being wrong.

Actual fictional occult debauchery in general. I strongly desire internal logic in my stories. :S

Research resources would, however, be greatly appreciated, oh lady who knows shit about like, performing. :D

WORD. I don't know much about stage magic, much less in the Victorian era, but some things about performing never change. Western stage directions, for instance, and the addictive nature of bending an audience's response to your will. I will never not crave that.

I haven't got any resources to hand, save a theatre history textbook(s? I think I have three, but two may be different editions of the same text) but I can get you the names of those, and would be well and truly happy to dig through them and/or the intertubes in an attempt to answer any questions you have and/or come up with later. Oh! I know a few people who do some stage magic, and can try to get some suggestions from them. What are you looking for?

Names of common/long-running tricks would be ideal, because then I'd know what to look for and how to describe them. :D

No, I'll unlock them for now, but I'll relock them when I have enough for publication so remember to read them quickly!
