That awesome moment when you realise that the entire universe fits together in an amazingly complex and chaotic structure that abides by rules you will never properly understand and that govern everything from the way thoughts move in your brain to the chemical make-up of the body you inhabit, from the mind-buggeringly vast expanses of galactic ( Read more... )

Then I'm especially impressed that he bothers talking to mere mortals at all because whenever this happens I just want to wonder around staring at things and saying "wow" like I'm really stoned.

[Last time this happened I got hypnotised by the geometry of tiles on the underground, got excited by the concept of seeing in colour, and then had a bad headache.]

It's less the euphoria and more the sense of epiphany that bothers me.

I'm not sure I quite get how you're using epiphany... does it bother you because you think that actually you did know this already, or what?

I'm inclined to agree that it doesn't stop it being awesome (though it has to be said, I'm the person who when she realised she was finally having an aura migraine sat thinking "oo that's pretty" until the headache kicked in).

Oh dear! This might be total bollocks, but could it have been triggered by the tramadol you've been having? I know you've not been having much but I read that epilepsy sufferers shouldn't take it as it can cause seizures even at low doses. Luckily the type of seizure caused is thought not to be dangerous, although I read one article saying you can get a full grand mal seizure from tramadol. But that was just one article, and it concerned doses ten times higher than the amount you've been taking.

Sorry if this is already a possibility you've discounted for whatever reason!

I don't have general convulsions, so I'm pretty sure that even if it is triggered by the tramadol, it's not actually physically harmful, just occasionally annoying when I realise that my Sense of Mystical Understanding is just the result of a seizure rather than any actualy thought process. :| So far the only side-effects of the tramadol seems to be feeling a bit sick occasionally. Which, you know, I can get that from reading people's comments on news stories...
