I never say anything interesting any more

My mind has been replaced by a series of motors which are all attached to different countdowns, and occasionally little signs attached to various cogs pop up with messages like "you're not doing enough" and "you're stupid" and "you're going to screw everything up ( Read more... )

I live with my mother so we interact every day. It ranges from hostile to "affectionate". I use quotes because we're still learning how to act that word.

When I didn't live at home I talked to my mother at least once a day. She would call me and our interactions would range from brief to lengthy and would mostly be her checking in or telling me something helpful. She can be very, very sweet when she's in the mood to be.

Glad to hear that, though. :)

Actually, I probably do talk to my mother pretty much every day, but the majority of it is either bitching about the media or gossiping about people in law and and politicians, i.e. 'shop talk', so I don't know, doesn't register as very parental, I guess.

Or, eh, tomorrow, since I'm about to die and don't want to end up in Lourdes or something. Will poke you to see when might be a good time to stumble in.

I almost never actually *speak* with my mother but I IM with her probably most days, and generally only briefly.

Also, while I have left home, it's looking more and more likely that I'm going to have to move back in once I'm done at UEA. Woe.

Does that mean you'll be pursuing theatre courses in London?

It's looking more and more like the thing to do. Assuming I can work out a way of funding it.

Might one be able to get a self-improvement loan for such a thing?

These interactions with your mother are typically: brief but affectionate.

We don't typically fight (I have younger sisters to do all of that parental arguing), but we do argue on what constitutes a good length for a conversation. To my mother, 15 minutes is a "long talk". To me, well, you can probably guess what I am sometimes expecting here (For n=conversation length, and if conversation = unfinished, then n->infinity?).

She sounds... distant?

That is how it sometimes feels. I want to talk about her Math homework (or mine) or what I am studying or just some general topic of conversation, and she wants to tell me the latest news and then go do something else. I sometimes have to play the "but I'm the farthest away" card to grab a couple of extra minutes.
