Saves are not a statistic that should drive bullpen management quite as much as they sometimes do [insert dark mutterings about leverage here], but whatever else I have to say about it, Saves and the Closer role do frequently mean that Jason Grilli is throwing the last pitch in a Pirates win

I did not realize just how tall Grilli was until seeing these pictures!

Right? He doesn't look that big out on the mound, but he's actually something like 6'5", so he towers over the rest of the team, who are, for the most part not little guys.

This whole team is just too cute; they're goofy and cornball but really earnest about playing well, and I just kind of love them a lot.

If only they didn't start so many of their games when I'm at work.... :)

I need a team to watch this season that isn't the Brewers. I've dabbled with the Pirates before (for some reason all the Correia squeeing never made it to LJ. Or Tumblr. Or anywhere else.) but you and assorted other Pirates people have got me more excited this year.
