Friendships, I have decided, are fleeting, fragile and entirely unnecessary. That said, the dawning realisation that I have never had a true friend in this House isn't even that upsetting. Quite the opposite, in fact. There is no need for me to do anything stupid for loyalty's sake, as I have none save to myself. Though just because there is no ( Read more... )

If you were looking for friendship, Nott, you should have considered a different House. How odd you only realise this so many years after the fact.

1. I did not sort myself, Bones.
2. The House trait is Ambition. We are human, and humans have a natural tendency to seek out their own kind.

Obviously judging by your response, it's a stupid trait that we Slytherin should attempt to forego, as it is deemed entirely inappropriate coming from us.

1. Oh, really? You have more to do with your Sorting than you think.
2. Yes, it is. Your main ambition appears to be to catch up on all the journal-writing that you haven't done over the past year before the end of school and to spend as much time whinging about your self-imposed alienation as possible.

The other house trait is cunning. Part of cunning is the ability to understand and use human relationships. It is no one's fault but your own if you lack it.

Merlin knows I would never read anything you write unless you thrust it upon my journal, so why do you even bother? It isn't as though you'll be tested on the content, Smith.

Oh dear. I wouldn't have said that. Did you forget that the professors read these journals too? Openly admitting that you're not participating's going to go over real well.

I'm so watching.

If this institution is going to punish me for not wasting my time on your idle stupidity (or punish you for not wasting yours on mine, for that matter), then it is not an institution I feel any respect for.

And any detention I receive for voicing my honest opinion on that matter just proves that the school itself is no more mature than any of its inhabitants -- including first years. So be it.
