A brief note.

Friendships, I have decided, are fleeting, fragile and entirely unnecessary. That said, the dawning realisation that I have never had a true friend in this House isn't even that upsetting. Quite the opposite, in fact. There is no need for me to do anything stupid for loyalty's sake, as I have none save to myself. Though just because there is no ( Read more... )

Bored now.

Be more entertaining tomorrow, would you? Less of the hand-action, too. I can do that myself, don't need to read it.

Merlin knows I would never read anything you write unless you thrust it upon my journal, so why do you even bother? It isn't as though you'll be tested on the content, Smith.

Oh dear. I wouldn't have said that. Did you forget that the professors read these journals too? Openly admitting that you're not participating's going to go over real well.

I'm so watching.

If this institution is going to punish me for not wasting my time on your idle stupidity (or punish you for not wasting yours on mine, for that matter), then it is not an institution I feel any respect for.

And any detention I receive for voicing my honest opinion on that matter just proves that the school itself is no more mature than any of its inhabitants -- including first years. So be it.

Five points from Hufflepuff for discussing blatantly inappropriate subjects.

Five points from Slytherin for ignoring the rules of the journaling project.

Professor, you may wish to make it ten from Slytherin, as I will probably continue to ignore them. That is, unless they can be presented in a way that makes sense, of course. I don't see the point in the project as it stands.

Shut up Theodore. We're winning the house cup at the moment, and we're not about to lose it now. Millicent will not be pleased.

I don't care about the House cup, or Millicent Bulstrode right now. Aren't you bothered by the fact that we get punished for being openly honest about something? That the only feedback our Head offers is criticism? Nothing is spoken, really, and nothing is ever truly explained. I don't understand you, Blaise. Why do you think Hogwarts will break out in a war over Draco? Are you disturbed by his death at all or do you really see it as an opportunity for yourself? Can I even trust you enough to speak with you about it or should I watch my tongue around everyone in our House, without exception? It's baffling. My only solace, really, is that it is going to be over with soon. Though I imagine they might expel me before N.E.W.T.s., if I keep asking questions. What do you think?

What I think about anything has no place on a public forum that anyone can read. I guard my thoughts, Theodore. If you're idiotic enough to share this with an open forum, then you deserve all you heap upon yourself.

If you were to discuss this off these wretched things, however, there would be no problem. We do not show weakness, Theodore, especially not now.

You have never said a genuine word to me, have you?

On these journals, one watches what they say. You want to know what I truly think, it's face-to-face only, and agreements that it does not leave that room. I don't discuss my thoughts on these journals. I won't have my thoughts used as weapons by the Gryffindors.

As you wish, Mr Nott.

Ten further points from Slytherin. If you cannot follow the regulations imposed by the Headmaster pertaining to this project, I suggest you cease participating.

Twenty points from Slytherin for your cheek, Mr Nott. I shall not be patronised by a student.

It was honest, rather than sarcasm, Professor Snape. I feel as though I have been taught something of value by this entire exchange. Though I understand that tone of voice can come across badly in text, so I will just apologise for losing points for our House and leave it at that.

The value of knowing when to speak and when to hold one's tongue is a lesson that should have been learnt long ago, Mr Nott. One does not cease to be political simply because one declares himself otherwise.
