"Hey, we do what we have to for survival here. I'm not much for humans...but this group seems mostly decent, enough, at least." Decent enough that Butterfly wasn't constantly subjected to their wishes and hearts desires as he might have been back home.

Perhaps the ghosts tuned that part of his brain out for him.

"There has to be some getting along for survival, especially in a place like this, don't you think?" he added quietly, glancing up at Itachi for a moment with those absinthe green eyes.

Butterfly eyed the rice Itachi hefted, moving to stand closer, choosing a bag for himself as well, hefting it, glancing to Itachi.

"Humans like this stuff, then?" he asked quietly.

Itachi nodded in accordance with most of what Butterfly had been saying, but more specifically in regard to his final question.

"Rice is a fundamental part of each meal where I am from," Itachi explained. Of course, not everyone ate it, and some people (like Naruto, for instance) would eat snack meals more often than proper meals, but that didn't matter. "It is also a food that can be easily prepared in a multitude of ways."

There were other grain foods and types of noodles packaged nearby and Itachi selected one to add to his bag before moving on. The next aisle heralded spices and baking powders of all sorts, canned milk and food dyes, cake batters and other similar things.

"I'm curious... if you are not human... what are you, Butterfly-san?"

"Fundamental, huh? He'd like it, I bet." and with that he was slipping two packages into his own bag, eying the rest of the shelves blandly before starting onwards. His ears flickered though as he listened to Itachi, glancing back to him, then turning to follow after him. The canned milk was sneered at, Butterfly turning his attention to Itachi one more at the question.

"I'm a cat." he remarked wryly, as if it amused him that the answer wasn't obvious. Just a cat who could...adopt human guise.

"Hope we get to the meat soon." he murmured, relish in his voice. Oh yes, he liked the idea of there being meat to eat in the house again...hopefully it wouldn't rot prematurely.

It wasn't that he didn't trust Butterfly to bring back food [quite the opposite really]; it was simply the selection that was in question. After all, a cat's palate was a bit different from his own, and while he felt rather confident in his own ability to gauge the feline's taste, he could not be so blindly accepting of the reciprocal factor ( ... )

A cat. He nodded, even though it was evident that there was more to Butterfly's subspecies than that. Ordinarily cats were not able to take on the form of a human being, for example, but deliberating that point wasn't something that Itachi was interested in doing, particularly if Butterfly was unwilling to offer up the information after his first query.

Without missing a beat, the cat carried on chatting, mentioning something about wanting to get to where the meat was kept. Itachi listened conscientiously, but something was tugging at the fringe of his awareness... something familiar... distracting ( ... )

It wasn't Itachi's business what sort of breed or pedigree Butterfly was. No one at present knew what he was beyond cat...and the feline wished to keep it that way. Human's were greedy after all, and he was likely the last of his kind at any rate thanks to them.

But he couldn't help the desire to be around them. Alicia had changed that, for the better, perhaps?

Slow, near silent footsteps drew Butterfly's attention, ears pricking, that tail swaying attentively.

"I hope you collected more than just mil. . ."

"I got more." he said with a cocky sort of smirk, a look that died when he saw the look of shock on his roommate's face. He glanced back and forth at the pair of them, stepping towards Sasuke slowly. He wasn't exactly sure what this was about yet but...well, curiosity was a fault of his race.

"You alright?"
