Oh, man, this is good. It's Horario growing up, learning about how hard a service he's chosen. Very wonderfully heartbreaking.

Thanks! Felt good to actually get this one in under the wire. *grin* I was playing with the whole danger/victory thing and it ended up a lot more heartbreaking than I planned, but it seemed to work.

Oh, I liked this. Really thoughtful and such a nice use of the quote. I love Hornblower with his 'heart in his eyes' - the darling - and Kennedy so highly strung Pellew had better not think about why. <3

Thanks! I had fun playing with different ideas of what constituted 'danger' --emotional, physical, and emotional again but of a different sort.

Blimey - if this is the shape of fic in 2008 then bring it on. Loved it to pieces - you MUST write more. If simply for my sanity....structured fic, beautiful phrases - this has the lot.

Gold standard stuff, lokei! Can't improve on Mylodon's praises. Beautiful progression, lump in throat sadness. Liked No 3. particularly. I second the call for you to write more. LKU would be nice *hint hint*. Thanks for a great start to 2008

Thank you! I had trouble figuring out if I was ok with switching points of view between snippets, but No.3 just worked best from Pellew's pov, so I kept it that way. Glad you approve!

Oddly enough, I don't think I've written any LKU. Poor Archie just keeps dying on me...that'd be a fun possibility to keep in mind, however.
