Watery Wed and, uh, Thurs at Thcool.

Sep 02, 2010 22:05

Yesterday was all about water: washed the dog, did 2 loads of laundry (which dried superfast, it was so blasted hot out), ran the dishwasher, and mopped the kitchen floor (long overdue, ew). Also went to the grocery store and picked up my missing med from the pharmacy.

I also had a weird experience. ( Cell phone: dead or alive? )

library, school:miniplu, dw, school, shopping

Love the resistor earrings and necklace! I've always thought resistors looked neat, in a beady sort of way.

Glad the Back to School Night went well and that MiniPlu's teacher is indeed awesome (and hopefully worth putting up with the relative lack of friends and problem behaviour kids for)! Yours is early -- ours will be next week, and we've been in school for longer, of course.

Sorr to hear about the frustrations with Two. We are very much still adjusting to school, I feel, even though it's kind of been a while. I wonder if the shorter summer threw the rodents off-kilter -- I know it kind of did me.

Oh, and L asked for a rolling backpack in third grade and maybe even in second. We told her she was way too much of a klutz to manage one, because she never pays attention to anything around her. This year her backpack is actually heavy enough that a rolling one might have made sense... but she is still a klutz.

Back to School night was early for us, too - usually it's in the second week of school, not the fourth day! I don't think any teachers really got anything done this week; they were too busy frantically working on projects with the kids so parents would have something to look at.

See piperki's comment below about the coolness factor of rolling backpacks amongst older kids, as well as their (lack of) practicality with lockers. (Remind me: does your school go to 5th or 6th?) What's frustrating me is that I was looking into getting MiniPlu a bigger backpack for next year, when she will almost certainly need one (and since there are sales happening now/soon...), but for the reputable backpack companies (Bean and LandsEnd), I'm seeing a lot of comments about how their backpacks aren't really that large, even the ones that claim to be for older kids. So - I'm not entirely sure what I'll be doing for her next pack.

"You've probably heard that "Evian" is simply "naïve" spelled backwards."

heeheee. :) that's funny!
bottled water is one of my guilty pleasures, but at least, I buy cheap brands. :)

I've pretty much stopped buying bottled water unless I'm traveling or throwing a party, to reduce the number of plastic bottles involved. We each have our own metal bottle to reuse now. But still - I had a good laugh at the "naive/Evian" thing. :D

I took 7ZVZTZ4QV6FYVAAALDX9. I don't know if I'm ever going to DO anything with it, because I barely have time to write here. But if everyone goes away at least I can go with them.

WRT the phone, it sounds like your tower or your network had the problem, not you. Unless everyone else around you was doing fine and it was only your phone...

Oh and also, LVN had a rolling backpack in sixth or maybe seventh grade...when he changed to his new school, he found it wouldn't fit in the locker. It won't fit in his high school locker either and it appears no HS student would be caught dead with a rolling backpack, so it's now a piece of travel luggage only. He uses it on long road trips. Thing weighs a zillion pounds.

I'm definitely not rushing out for a rolling backpack. I know they've talked about damaging kids' backs with too-heavy packs, but we've all somehow managed when we were kids, and they're extremely rare around here. I pointed out to MiniPlu, how would she haul it up the bus steps. She's insisting she would just turn it into a backpack for that, but you're right - it would just weigh a million pounds more that way. Hah!

You can post at DW and check a box to cross-post to your LJ. That's what I've been doing since I got my DW code. So - you don't have to waste time posting extra.

...but that same exact thing happened to me with my cell phone this week (most maddeningly on Monday but again on Wednesday). Not sure if it was an issue with Sprint or what, but it seems to be reasonably worked out now.

C'mon. Stop lurking for a moment and tell me a bit about yourself. :) But thanks for letting me know it's happened to other people, too!
