Narrowing it down

In August, MiniPlu applied to, and was accepted to, a "focus on diversity" weekend at Mt. Holyoke College, wherein minority women or those who were "diverse" in other ways (ie economically or perhaps physically?) were brought in for seminars, two overnights (one in a dorm with a student host), and the chance to attend some classes. The vast ( Read more... )

Sounds like a super busy week for you.

Should I feel sorry for Will that he had to do the cat stuff??? ;-)

I only feel mildly sorry for him because I felt bad leaving him alone twice in the span of a month - he doesn't do well when I'm not there. Plus, this time, Karen wasn't there so he had the added responsibilities of all the animals. I mean, does ANYONE like doing cat boxes? ;-)

Wow, that's a big step! Good luck to her with early decision -- and with the rest of the college apps!

How many schools is she applying to in total? How many different applications does she have to do? (seems like even with the Common and Coalition apps and whatever, there is still a lot of distinct work...)

I remember October/November being absolutely brutal last year for L and her classmates, in terms of all the extra college stuff work on top of regular school. Hoping this crunch time goes smoothly for yo and MiniPlu! (and dreading when it's our turn again next year :P)

Also ouch, that's a lot of stuff to do for you. Hope you manage to get a breather in there somewhere!

I think she's applying to six or seven schools, although of course she's going to hold off applying to the others, pending her ED acceptance (or not) at MHC. Hopefully she won't be left scrambling in January to finish a bunch of other applications, if ED doesn't work out.

I had both school secretaries (elem and middle) texting me today, asking for any scrap of any day I could spare them, for the same several days, which meant sometimes one won out, and sometimes the other. They are so desperate, even if I was only free Fri morning, or next Tues after 10:30a or whatever, they were delighted to have me for even just that part of the day I could spare. Something has to be done - the schools can't keep going on like this. The subs, as well as the in-class aides are being run ragged, frequently covering multiple spots throughout the day in order to patch the most crucial holes, while leaving others out.

Are the other schools' deadlines so late that she can wait to hear back from ED? Ours were all in November, and the latest of the schools L was considering (but didn't end up applying to) was Jan 15. Sounds like you will have more time, though...

It does sound really crazy that there are not enough subs to go around! Hopefully something can be done, and good luck with the scramble for now.

Yeah, I think most of the schools' regular deadlines are Jan 15th or thereabouts. UC had deadlines in NOVEMBER? *Regular* deadlines? That's insane!
