I know, I know - a lot of you are probably completely disinterested in the holiday, whether you've got an SO in your life or not. But to me, it's always been a day to express affection to the people you care for, even if they're "just" friends or other family members. My mom and I have always exchanged cards and still do. My great-aunt would

Husband gave me flowers and a box of chocolates (which he ate more than I did!). I've ordered him a book - on diction for singers in French, German and Italian - his choice, I would never have thought of it ;)
As for the wedding fiasco - sounds more as if they liked the idea of a posh wedding rather than of being married with all the complications that involves.

Aww, that's really cute! :)
Glad it sounds like you found a good substitute for the Italian celebration place back home, even if with a somewhat smaller, pricier menu.
OMG, that wedding story O.o (TBH, even the amount of money spent on a "normal" wedding kind of boggles the mind for me -- like, my friend's budget was something like $25k? And it was a super-nice, very memorable wedding. But, like, that was also pretty much what it cost 4 of us to travel for 9 weeks, and I know which one of those I'd rather spend discretionary income on...)
That does sound like a very nice production for a middle school! (and I wonder about where they found all those trombones, too XD)
I didn't realize the LEGO Batman movie was out already. We won't go see it in theaters, but it did seem pretty cute from trailers, so I'm looking forward to watching it on video.
Happy Valentine's Day (belatedly) :)

LEGO Batman just came out last weekend (AMC theaters promised a little LEGO figurine and mini-Bat-vehicle thing if you saw it opening weekend, which was part of why we went then - apparently it was just if you saw it in 3D, which we didn't, but they were nice enough to give Two a figurine packet when we asked, anyway).
Our wedding was probably fairly typical in terms of costs, and yes, it was a lot for just one day, but still not anywhere near $300+ !! (Also, if I had to do it over again, I think I would pick having a potluck picnic in the park over a "traditional" reception.)
