In a recent issue of Time magazine, there was, among other things, a section highlighting the economic breakdown of Americans into 5 categories, somewhat akin to "the top 20%, the next 20%, etc" although the numbers weren't that tidy. For each group, it highlighted the percentage of people in that population who graduated high school, declared themselves to be happy, smoke, what their average SAT scores are, average life expectancy, you get the idea. It also listed the percentage of people in that category who had had sex by age 16. Unsurprisingly, the number goes up as the income level goes down. But me, being super-nosy, started wondering about LJ-land.
For purposes of this poll, I'm classifying "first kiss" as first romantic kiss, and I'm not counting if Susie or Billy in second grade planted one on you in a fit of little-kid affection. ;-)
"First time having sex" is trickier to qualify. First penetrative sex? First time you and your partner messed around with intent to orgasm (whether or not it actually happened)? I'd say that either definition "counts," although if your first time is qualified differently, perhaps you could leave me an anonymous comment to explain.
Because of the deeply personal nature of this poll, I've set answers "viewable to none" and I promise not to peek at individual respondees' names; I'm only interested in overall trends. Anonymous commenting is allowed and IP logging is temporarily turned off. If you want to promote this poll on your flist, feel free.
For the record (because I'm shameless like that), I was kind of a late bloomer, I think. I was 16, nearly 17 (in about 10 weeks' time) for my first kiss, which happened, of all places, at the junior prom. First sexual experience was at 21.
What about you?
