Oh cool! I've never seen marbles like that before. What are they made of - actual stone? I guess that would explain why they're called marbles! I wonder if they're dyed? That turquoise one in the back looks so color-rich. I've had some natural stone and coral jewelry from beads I bought and put together myself, and the dyes turned out to be rather fugitive - maybe because they were exposed to light, hanging on a rack on the wall instead of being tucked away in a dark jewelry box. Anyway, don't expose them to too much sunlight in case the colors fade!

Some are marble, some are other stones, some are clay; some are dyed, some are painted. They're safely tucked away now! :D

My girlfriend got them for me from a reputable online antiques seller. :D

Those are amazing - they remind a little of photos I've seen of Roman or Egyptian marbles, made of clay... One of them (bottom right) looks a little like a musket ball...

And I've sorted the tags for you.

Some of them are made of clay; others are (obv.) marble & other stones. They really do look like little musket balls, some of them - or little cannon balls, all chipped and in need of smoothing out... :D

There was that one cannon from The Ionian Mission, I think, where the did use marble cannon balls!

Hee, I'd forgotten that!

*examines own marbles* I think some of these may be compacted stone dust of some kind.....
