Of Kitty Toothbrushes and Guilt-tripping Cats

Mar 13, 2010 01:26

Today, I purchased a kitty toothbrush because, although brushing a cat's teeth is not common practise in my country, I'd read online it might be a good idea and decided to give it a try... I started simple, without any toothpaste, because I wasn't sure what Dido would think of having her very pointy teeth brushed...

Well, let's just say that she ( Read more... )

Oh, dear! Sounds like brushing Dido's teeth went over about as well as trimming our Ivan's claws goes over with him. (It's the only time he's ever hissed at us). And cat teeth are so very pointy! I'm glad you didn't get bitten or scratched, at least.

Kitties just don't understand "for your own good"--if it doesn't feel good, it isn't good. Fortunately, they don't seem to hold a grudge for long either.

Dido endures the claw trimming with a good disposition, doesn't kick up a fuss when it's time to bathe her (she has a nasty habit of rolling around in the dirt -_-), and even takes being made to swallow pills graciously... but something itchy scratching her teeth?! Oh no, that, she won't allow. *sighs*

She's a sweety, though, and tends to act offended and hurt rather than lash out when the human is trying to make her do something she doesn't like (except for towelling. There's nothing she hates more than towelling, and she sure lets me know it), but she does know how to hold a grudge every time I take her to the vet... she hates the guy. She won't bite or scratch, but she won't make the process easy, either. And for about a week afterwards, she'll be insufferable... needy, and crying and yowling for ages every time I get out of her sight. :/

My cats have been giving me those looks for the past two weeks. We've got a flea infestation--the anti-flea stuff I got them did not work, and it's only this weekend that I can go and get them more. Until then, I'm wary of seriously cuddling them, given the bites I've got already, so they're both giving me the Hurt and Betrayed Look. Poor kitties!

They give me hurt looks whenever I keep them from going outside, too--either because of cars, or more fleas. Ah, cats....

Yikes... fleas!

I've been lucky so far... either the product I use on her (that sticky stuff you apply on the back of the neck once a month) works really well, or there aren't any fleas in the area, because she's never had any, despite the fact that there are a couple of strays that use my balcony as a lounging point.

But I've heard it can be pretty hard to erradicate a flea infestation... good luck with that, and I hope your kitties don't take the forced isolation too hard...

Me, Dido has been wary opf coming close to me since I brushed her teeth. >_<

Why having her claws trimmed and swallowing pills alright, but getting baths, going to the vet or having her teeth brushed not? I'll never understand cats...

The thing is, when I realized there were fleas, I ran out and got some of that back-of-the-neck stuff--the cheap kind, since the store I went to didn't have the kind I've used before.

The stuff totally didn't work. It's gotten better since I did 1500 loads of laundry and got some flea powder and spray, but I'm afraid I may have to flea bomb the house. Icky little parasites.

Pom and Taddeus are still all over the house, I'm just really reluctant to cuddle them.

Yikes. Good luck getting rid of those creepy-crawlies.

Uhm, but I thought cat fleas weren't supposed to bite humans?
