It would seem that one of the main generators meant to supply my city with electric juice has gone boom! or poof! or splat! and has stopped working altogether.

What does that mean? Well, that we don't have enough electric power for the entire population. Which means that there are planned electric power cuts every day until they manage to replace it ( Read more... )

stuff, rant, no

No, just horribly negligent when it comes to the proper maintenance of their generators. ¬¬

I mean, it's bad enough that electricity is horribly expensive over here, but now I'm paying for them to cut the power six hours a day?!

That's horrible! Do you at least have some non-perishable foods? If the fridge is going to be off for six hours every day, even for a little while, you'll want to stock up on a few things that don't need to be kept cold. I don't know what to tell you about the rest of it, except that it sucks, and you know that better than anyone.

I hope it gets better faster than mid-Feburary, dearie. *tackle hugs you*

*gives you icy berries to help you think cool thoughts*

Well, I've had to live for more than a year without a fridge, so I've long since learned to manage without one... so never fear; I won't go hungry. Still, most of the foodstuffs that don't require cold storage need heat to be prepared, and slaving over the stove in the summer is practically torture... (on the other hand, good thing my stove works with gas and not electricity, or I really would be without food during the power cuts)

Yep, it sucks, royally.

Let's hope so, but from what I've heard, those saying it's going to be solved by mid-february were actually being optimistic... *headdesk*

At least the power cuts are a great excuse to work on my knitting... though knitting on black yarn with only a couple of candles as a source of light means that I can't afford to make mistakes, because fixing them is going to be nigh impossible. :/

*chomps greedily on the icy berries*

(btw, I posted that drabble with Donna and the Doctor I told you about last time. It's here, just in case you missed it. ^^)

WHAAT. I would die.. especially if it's the summer *A*

It's winter here actually so I'm quite fine.. but.. that's like a black out! I'm already pissed from that one black out I experienced 9 years ago i think :\

That's like a call for nature to come in! Field trip to the apple field! The zoo!
Oh that reminds me. You're never gonna be able to get my drabble/fic up hmm? Oh wells. I hope you'll be back on soon >__

Yep, it's exactly like a black out... one in installments lasting three hours each. -_-

If only. Thing is, no electricity means no computers, and no security systems... so most of the shops and most of the attractions you could plausibly go to are closed during the power cuts. -_-

You'll get your drabble... eventually. ^^U

I'm slow at the best of times, and if I have to write in a notepad... well... ^^U

Eh... so will you be able to eat ice-cream or anything cold? :(

That's a shame :\
What do you think you're gonna do until the power gets back on?

Lol.. I'll wait :)
It's okay. When I'm not home, I write on napkins just to keep everything on track >:D

Wow. *Huggle* Jeez. That really sucks.

Your okay though, right? Got plenty of canned goods and whatnot?

Yeah, it does. The worst thing is that the ones responsible for it keep pointing to other people and refusing to take responsibility. Which means that we won't get any kind of compensation for the troubles these cuts have caused us: Burnt equipments due to sudden power spikes when the power returns, lost information when the power goes down before the announced time and your computer suddenly turns off while you were trying to cram in as much work as possible, fresh produce spoilt in the summer heat because the fridges are off, spoilt medicine, melted and ruined ice-cream in the ice-cream parlours, shop owners unable to sell because they can't process credit cards, virtually no air conditioning anywhere and tourists fleeing the city towards the river (and thus not spending any money) ...the list is endless. -_ ( ... )

D: Wow. Stupid people doing stupid things, basicly. Not so suprising, but DEFINATLY a pain in the arse and more. *Extra huggling*

We lost power for four days once in summer and THAT was bad enough. I was ready to kill something by that point. We hadn't had the pool up yet and with the increased heat I was NOT letting my dad go outside and work on getting it up.

Okay, tips for keeping cool!

1)I'd suggest making a bed on the floor at night. Since heat rises, it's a little more bearable down there.

2)Wrap wet paper towels around your wrists. Or just run cool water over them. It's a trick my mom taught me.

3)Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Darker colors attract more heat.

Dunno you knew any of this already, but it doesn't hurt to tell you.

Well, the latest news is that they apparently are going to give us compensation... probably a measly discount in the next electricity bill, but oh well. I guess it's something. :/

He, that reminds me when I first moved into Córdoba (the city where I live). It's considerably hotter here than where I used to live (the Southern Hemisphere's equivalent of Canada), so I remember lying on the floor, practically naked, trying to escape the heat...

Thanks for the advice! I'd never heard of the wrist thing, but I'm going to try it...
